After growing up in small PA towns Emporium and Dubois and then graduating from Penn State with a degree in advertising, Maria Barton worked for agencies in Chicago and Manhattan.

When the long hours and commute started to take a toll after a few years, she and her husband, Zach, (and puppy Sammi!) decided to move closer to home.

After both finding jobs in State College and buying a house in Bellefonte in 2014, Maria and Zach are now enjoying Happy Valley (with a few other fur kids in the mix!).

We asked Maria to fill us in on her local favorites and hope you’ll enjoy hearing about her State College experience!

This past Friday, approximately 400 locals came to hang out with us!

So many great neighbors gathered in one place and so much good food! Did you try the sliders?! We can’t say a big enough thank you to @champspennstate for spoiling us with the ultimate app spread!

We are so grateful to everyone who came out to celebrate the start of State College summer with us! An extra special thanks to Champs Downtown for being such generous partners and hosts, the State College Redevelopment Authority for their enduring and enthusiastic support, and the @downtownstatecollege improvement district for their help with promotion and donation of $150 in gift cards for our bingo winners!

We left the event feeling so proud to live in such a vibrant town with so many talented, kind, and interesting neighbors. One of our favorite quotes of the night, from an event-goer, was, “I can live anywhere I want. And I do.”

It feels pretty good to have the whole summer ahead of us to enjoy the beautiful trails, wonderful restaurants, great small businesses, and all of the things that make living here so worthwhile.

Thanks again to everyone who made the night a total blast!

See you at the next one?!
