Tea, a drink with jam and bread! 🍞

262 days in lutruwita 🏔 Having the wildest time, in every sense. It has been wonderful and challenging, and my brain and body have not worked this hard / been this stimulated for quite a long while. Exhausted, and thrilled about it. Problem solving constantly. Learning hilarious new skills (we can chop wood now. And can ratchet! I know all about shipping containers, and I really want to take a chainsaw course). Survived a Tasmanian winter, which was actually magical. Cooking with fire is enormously satisfying / patience-building. There's a sweet robin bird that visits us in the mornings, I can't handle how amazing it is - I think Nola and Jack have sent him to us. Finally back on the (other) axe 🎻 after slicing my finger at Christmas time, true relief. Joined TSO. Making as much art as I can. Eating fruit straight from a tree is just the best. I am obsessed with all our new friends (hens included), and I am constantly stunned by the wonders of the earth. Every sunset is like a rock show. And there's a fucking excellent wine-book shop in Hobart, thank goodness for that.

Renting still sucks, though.

It's great making music with time and space and excellent musicians. The foundation stones of our new album (launching August 2026) were laid back in Kardella in 2021.

Calf set up a house as a recording studio (check out the epic set up on slide 5) and incredible drummer/percussionist Maria Moles joined us (Matt, Paul, Calf) to lay down sounds and rhythms for us to work with. She’s a total gun and a legend of the Naarm / Melbourne music scene. Grateful to work with her and happy to finally be able to share the album soon.

Not shown in the images: I remember for me (Matt), health-wise, this was a bit of a weird time. I still didn't have a handle on my Chronic Fatigue and was ok for stretches but would then crash. I was really mindful of managing my energy the whole week. Still, this retreat felt productive and fun and I can hear the room and the landscape and the time we spent together in the final product ✨

Major announcement ~ We will be re-mounting The Crying Room possibly for the last time ever at her Majesty‘s Theatre in Ballarat this November. @nalpy and I just spent a week in the Ballarat and I am so so excited to present this work in this extraordinary venue, it really feels like the spiritual home for the project. If you never got to see the original production this is your chance. I really really encourage you to make the trip # to Ballarat to share this work with us -it’s going to be a very special experience. It will be a very limited run and it WILL sell out.
