𝙁𝙖𝙡𝙨𝙚 𝘽𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 is out today. It is the first album I’ve made of all new material, responding to the present moment. The cast of characters are a shapeshifting us and them, enclosed together in a not-so-slow descent, gnawing at the proverbial tie that binds. For all the dissidents and the dissonance. love, shel featuring @bellbird.music @allisonburikmusic @elidavidovici @clairedevlinmusic @the_drummy_bear @marikajazz @essiambrejay @aaron.dolman @somespecialsolace @keni_rssl @seansyyy recorded, co-produced and mixed by @shaebrossard mastered by @kristianmontano @montanomastering portrait of me (and every mosquito in the south of France) by Florian in the garden while his mum played accordion thank you for listening 🛸

I had a great time playing in Edmonton and Calgary with Marika Galea, Dave Laing and Jonathan McCaslin! So nice to reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and perform for such wonderful listening audiences. Huge thanks Todd Crawshaw, Leah Wilson, everyone at the Yardbird Suite, and Lisa Buck, Aimee-Jo Benoit and all the volunteers at BuckingJam Palace! Both of these venues are doing something really special, connecting their communities with local and touring artists and programming a diverse array of excellent bands year after year. I was blown away to learn that the Yardbird Suite is the oldest volunteer-run jazz club in North America! It’s been open since 1957 and they have nearly 250 volunteers on rotation. And Lisa and AJ are doing incredible work with the BJP Music Foundation, not only with their concert series but also with jazz education and outreach. Inspiring

A quietly stunning lineup of musical shapeshifters arrives at Cluster on May 28 🌾 Tickets for The SunDog Ensemble are available now. Link in bio 🪷 The SunDog Ensemble is a rotating cast of musical creators exploring sound across genres, beamed into existence by Canadian pianist and songwriter Theresa Thordarson. The current lineup features Theresa on keys and vocals, composer/clarinetist Christopher Byman, multi-disciplinary guitarist John Himes, and jazz-adjacent guitarist/creator Ava Glendinning in a program including new and lesser-heard classical works, folk/pop music, and jazz non-standards.

My third album is a rock opera called False Balance and it will be out April 10. The sequence unfolds inside an elevator descending with songs structured as medleys, representing different narratives existing within the same liminal space, often bleeding into or competing with one another. For the third time, my dear pal @shaebrossard boarded the spacecraft with very few questions asked. The album was recorded as three different bands. Despite its complexity, it is the most at ease I have ever felt in the studio. Each session was its own special universe and I could not be more grateful for the care and enthusiasm that each musician brought to the project. A track from each ensemble is available now on Bandcamp ahead of the full release. See you soon, shel
