Sharing with you my personal experience with the 𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗶 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗔𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝘂𝗽 during the Dutch Brewers Cup.

During competition, my goal was for the judges to experience the coffee’s evolving layers as it cooled. The Asymmetry Cup’s unique rim — thin on one side, thick on the other — creates two distinct tasting “entrances”.

This design allowed me to guide the judges to taste different dimensions of the same coffee. The cup even reacts differently at different temperatures — something I planned for carefully. For example, sipping from the thin side at high temperatures can sometimes make acidity too sharp, so I intentionally let the coffee cool before presenting it.

Origami has always embraced minimalism and purpose-driven design. Here, nothing is decorative for the sake of it; every line and curve has meaning. The flavour differences from each side are very real and noticeable.

Last Friday’s coffee brewing session at Single Estate was nothing short of magical! ☕💛

On Valentine’s Day, we came together to celebrate our love for specialty coffee, perfecting techniques and sharing great conversations.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the event such a success! I was so honoured to be sharing my competition coffee with you. And thank you to @martenvds and @singleestatecoffeeroasters for all the support you have given me throughout these few months.

2️⃣ Your happiest experience
I had the opportunity to travel to Paris, France during the August epidemic during the summer vacation. This trip is my first trip to Paris. We went to the Eiffel Tower together, took a boat trip to see the night view of Paris, visited different museums, ate different French food, bread, desserts, Phô, and visited different cafes.

3️⃣ The most important person to you
During this often fearful day, I am grateful to have my other half’s company to share my inner world. Thank her for being there with me in both happy and sad moments. We both miss our families especially during this time. We haven't been “at home" for almost 2.5 years.

Are you aeropressing today?

𝗔𝗻 𝗔𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗲
Brewer: Upright
Filter: Double Filter (also work with Abaca Filter)
Coffee: 17.0g
Water: ~220cc @ 90°C
Grinding Size: Medium
7.5-8.0° (K-plus) - I did 7.5°
30-32° (JX-Pro)
18-20° (1Zpresso Q2)
Total brew time: 2’15’’

𝗕𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱
1. Rinse filter
(also ensure the edge of the filter places tightly on the tray)
2. Bloom: 35cc
3. Swril Vibrantly for 5-10 seconds
(Total Bloom & Swril Duration: 30 seconds)
4. Fill it up rapidly with 185cc of water
(Total amount of water: 220cc)
5. Wait until 1’45’’
6. Start pressing gently, for 30 seconds
(*move the brewer, not on the scale)
7. End extraction at 2’15’’
8. Bypass for 20-45cc (@ room temperature, depends on your tastes, I did 35cc)
