#FOTOFILMIC18 is the 6th edition of FotoFilmic’s traveling exhibition competition presenting 30 emerging and mid-career photographers from 12 nations in representation of material practices in contemporary photography. Unique in its genre and scope, the exhibition assembles a wide range of analogue and film-based photographic methods collectively picturing a resurgent attraction to, and preoccupation with the materiality of photographic envisioning in a world increasingly defined by computational measures. . Join us for the Opening Reception of FOTOFILMIC 18 and Kari Orvik: Geneva on Thursday, October 10 at 6pm! . @HeidiSchreck's @constitutionbwy ends with a magical moment. The lights dim and Heidi and her young debate partner—either Rosdely Ciprian or Thursday Williams—sit and ask each other questions. Always ending with Heidi asking, “What do you imagine your life will be like in X number of years?” (the years change, the question remains the same.) Inspired by What the Constitution Means to Me, we asked 15 photographers from around the country to photograph teenagers in their communities ranging in age from 13 to 20. Each photographer chose their own subject and submitted work reflective of their point of view. We then asked all the teens, “What do you imagine your life will be like in fifteen years?” 📷 Pictured is Chaya Michaels, age 16, photographed in their bedroom in Manhattan, New York. "For me, weirdness is like a puncture to breaking some of these shells that have encased us to teach us that we have to act a certain way, when actually, when we stretch those boundaries, our hearts, our physical selves, our intellectual selves become way more expansive than we were told we were allowed. So, I like to say weird because it sounds funny, and it’s a little bit more digestible, but underneath that my desire is to invite people to celebrate and expand every dimension of themselves so that their voices can be heard." -- Stephanie Hsu Stephanie Hsu (@hsulace) trained as an experimental theatre artist and never expected to be on Broadway. But after making her Broadway debut last year as Karen the Computer in SpongeBob SquarePants, she is now starring as Christine Canigula in @BeMoreChillMusical. Stephanie has imbued the musical’s passionate, seemingly self-actualized heroine, and “totem of truth,” with her own brand of self-described weirdness; she is also cognizant of the opportunity she has been given to set a precedent in creating an unconventional leading lady who is a positive role model for young people. We speak with Stephanie about the similarities and differences between experimental and commercial theatre, what playing Christine has taught her, why she enjoys originating roles, and more. For being a publication that exists solely online, maintaining a physical connection with our community is such an important facet of POND’s being. With so much of our everyday lives being tied to a screen, having one’s own words and images be tangible is a rare thing for an artist to experience nowadays. So with that in mind, we’re introducing the POND Photo Review Vol. 1, a compilation print book featuring work from a new generation of photographers. We are running a contest to discover creative talent to publish in our first photography book. No theme, no restrictions, just your best work. Submit to have your photos exist beyond the Internet and published in print alongside other upcoming talent. The selections will be curated by the POND editors and the featured artists will also be shown on our site. Deadline to submit is Tuesday, February 26th 11:59PM EST. Click the link in bio for contest rules. 📸 @marischafetz
