Ego.
.
It’s my worst enemy. And the funny thing is - if you run from it - that’s ego again.
.
When I hear this song - I think of my sickness as my own ego. When he says take me to sweet oblivion - it’s a place where ego doesn’t exist. It can’t. There’s no competition, no one cares - just freedom.
.
It’s the place I’m trying to get back to.
.
PS @kylianortegaperez I tried to fit an Arnold, a lunge, and a vacuum. Hard to tell in the lighting but if you look closely you’ll see me gasp for air when the music picks up 😂 - so there’s your proof.

AVOID THESE PITFALLS IN THE SIDE RELAXED POSE!!
.
1️⃣ Too much Anterior pelvic tilt: If you’re having issues with your belly sticking out ONE problem may be this! When we don’t squeeze the glutes and stack the rib cage above the pelvis - we can create this awkward arch in the spine which makes abdominal control impossible and the general shape just awkward. We want a nice vertical line from the shoulder joint, hip, and heel. It’ll also make it easier to contract on the obliques and tighten the waist line.
.
2️⃣ Tucking the lead arm in: this does a few things, knocks off the symmetry of the pose, it also shrinks the silhouette and hides muscle! Here you want the arms to mirror each other.
.
3️⃣ The Stress Trap(s): The majority of us carry stress in our upper traps/neck muscles and this pose will tell on people if they do. Problem is shrugging like this narrows the pose - where we want to take up space! So take a deep breath and relax those traps!
.
What are your biggest struggles in the side relaxed pose? Let me know below!

I’ll be honest, ego has gotten the best of me A LOT this year. Listening to this conversation I had with @really_slow_motion made me reflect on this in my own process.
.
The unnecessary pressure, the desire to produce cool things, rather than playing with ideas that can lead to something awesome down the road. Not having the willingness to look potentially stupid and goofy for the sake of learning rather than being rigid and shooting ideas down before even trying it out. Yep - this year - that’s been me 🙋🏻‍♀️
.
I reflected a lot this year and the result of the reflection was EGO. The last several years I had nothing to lose and didn’t care - just had fun and it was what it was. In reality I still have nothing to lose - but felt the desire to only progress in a linear fashion.
.
That’s not reality and that’s not the creative process. If you want to love the process - then you have to love the work and the ugly and mess that will most definitely come with it.
.
Has ego ever held you back, is it potentially holding you back now? Let’s talk about it below!

When coaching clients with posing, I like to teach them WHY we are doing something rather than just what to do.
.
Pushing the hips back in the front relaxed works nicely, we want the waist smaller and it also helps with rectus femoris activation in the quads as well…but in the back pose - it can cause an overpowering of glutes and knock everything else out of balance.
.
These are 2 common things I see among physique artists in their rear relaxed poses.

Playing between sets, then turned into just playing for awhile.
.
Flipping from edgy jagged movements and trying to do softer movements.
.
I’ll play with this more later.
@danielcoffeen3 thanks for reminding me of this song lol

Keep It Simple Sunday:
.
Build from the mandatories!” - Cool - what do you mean?
.
When teaching new poses I like to use the mandatories as a base to work with. I group poses into either shapes or directions and then try to break them down together so rather than learning a new pose from the ground up, we are practicing a mandatory and then making 2-3 small changes to make it something new to my client. It’s less overwhelming for them AND it reinforces basic principles. Win win!
.
Here if I hit a side relaxed in the opposite direction, that should take care of getting the lats open, getting the right amount of rotation to show off width. Now we just slightly change your base, and your arms. That’s IT!
.
Leave y’all with a little 💋 this weekend
