“At last Rapunzel was home, and she finally had a real family. She was a Princess worth waiting for. But above all, she led her kingdom with all the grace and wisdom that her parents did before her. And as for me, well. I started going by Eugene again. Stopped thieving, basically turned it all around. But I know what the big question is; did Rapunzel and I ever get married? Well I’m pleased to tell you. After years, and years of asking, and asking, and asking. I finally said yes.” - Eugene

Who we talkin’ about?
It is time that we celebrate 20 years of the most infamous & hated movie in Disney Animation history, #chickenlittle directed by #markdindal for November 4th, 2025. I might as well start with the bad news before heading into a personal connection. On its initial late 2005 release, the picture was meant to be a new beginning for the old/new team, capable of crafting their own computer animated films now that hand drawn is considered old fashioned. Unfortunately, the production clearly suffered from strict executive meddling caused by a lack of focus and identity. While true, it did become a modest hit at the box office. Yet, the reviews were extremely negative, as critics hated the weak story, stale humor, one dimensional characters, a horrible mean spirited tone, and it’s attempts to be like other 2000s family films by stuffing itself with many dated references to needle drops.

But if we can bring in the personal connection I said earlier, this was the first Disney Animation film I saw in theaters when I was around 3 and enjoyed it. As I’ve become older and critical of the media I used to like, I noticed the film is not perfect. Then again, there are a few good things that at least try decently enough such as the brilliant voice cast, the score by @johndebney has a good balance of contemporary whimsy & cosmic suspense, and for one of the first CG films to have a cartoony style, the visuals are well crafted even with the limitations. In the end, the open skies are just an alien invasion.

I made Star from The Sorcerer's Apprentice out of clay. STAR is a very important character to me, and has given me a lot of inspiration and passion. I believe "Wish" will continue to give people dreams and inspiration, and become a force for making wishes come true.⭐️

Today marks 25 years since the release of @disneyanimation 1999 coming of age jungle adventure, #tarzan directed by @kevinlima612 and #chrisbuck for June 18th, 2024. Ever since its inception, this project was a collaborative effort between the folks in Burbank, Paris, and Bay Lake in order to adapt Edgar Rice Burroughs’ original book as a modern animated film. Once the feature got ready to be delivered to theaters, it became a major success. The reviews were favorable, done a great job at the box office, and got seen everywhere during award season. As for my personal thoughts, I have vivid memories of seeing it time to time as a kid and enjoys it fondly. While it may have taken creative liberties, the feature still holds up with its story, animation, endearing characters, message, voice cast, and of course #philcollins and #markmancina unforgettable songs/ score. To honor this special day, I did sketches of Tantor, a baby baboon, and a few ape family members animated individually by #sergiopablos @brucealmighteee and @jayjacksonart #waltdisneyfeatureanimationfrance #waltdisneyfeatureanimationflorida #tuesdaydoodles #pendrawing 🦍🐘🐒🌴🌴🌴

Can’t believe we made it far, huge 20th anniversary shoutout to @disneyanimation western themed feature #homeontherange written & directed by @willthefinn and @jsanford86 for April 2nd, 2024!! At first sight, the feature unfortunately has a polarizing critical reception and ended as a box office bomb on its spring 2004 release resulting in the studio to step back from hand drawn animation by solely producing computer animated films!!! However, it did manage to do well through home media releases which slowly gathered a cult following from there. As for my experience, I became exposed to the film’s teaser trailer multiple times whenever I pop in and rewatch the dvd of #thelionkingoneandahalf throughout my childhood. Around mid 2015, I decided to rent the feature and see what I’ve been missing? To my surprise, I enjoyed it decently. Even if the film’s production was complicated and features two anonymous actors who highly looked down upon, it manages to pick up the slack on having quotable moments, memorable characters, gorgeous visuals, a solid voice cast, and of course the brilliant songs/score by #alanmenken & #glennslater 🏜️🌵🐄🐎🐓🐐🐇🐖🤠🤠🤠

So it finally comes to this, can’t believe we’re here but I wanted to give an early anniversary shoutout to Disney Animation’s most revolutionary feature, that being #frozen helmed by #chrisbuck & #jenniferlee for November 27th, 2023. The feature which was based on #hanschristianandersen tale of the Snow Queen, took the animation division many decades in finding the right story to tell. Once the film was sent to theaters during late 2013, nobody would expect that it made history in the making!! It was universally praised by critics, became the highest grossing film of the year, and found itself everywhere during award season. As for me, my dad & I were lucky to seeing it in theaters around the time I’ve turned 12. Fortunately, we were seated with one of the biggest audience crowds and became in awe at the very end!!! The story was highly engaging, the characters were unforgettable (minus Hans), the animation is gorgeous, @christophebeck score took me on a emotional ride, and of course the songs by #robertlopez & #kristenandersonlopez grew a impact on everybody!!! After 10 years, people are still quoting moments or singing the songs which now shows its deemed as a classic. After all, the cold never bothered us anyway!!! #waltdisneyanimationstudios ☃️❄️🏔️🌄🌻🇳🇴🥹🥹🥹

Here we go, huge early 15th anniversary shoutout to #bolt for November 21st, 2023!! Directed by #byronhoward & #chriswilliams - this feature is what helped Disney Animation to be successful again during their experimental phase in the late 2000s. It managed to gain positive reviews, had a decent box office run, and became a hit through dvd/ blu ray sales. As for my personal experience, I was lucky to see it in theaters on its 3rd weekend and kinda saw history in the making. While true, the story might’ve taken elements from Homeward Bound mixed with the Truman show. Yet, it still presented memorable characters, an intense 3rd act, solid voice acting, impressive visuals, @johnj_powell score is magnificent, and is jammed packed with tender to chuckle worthy moments. And so, here are sketches I did of Rhino voiced by former story artist @kramnotlaw and the pigeons which one of them being Vinnie was voiced by former supervising animator @linodisalvo #waltdisneyfeatureanimation 🐕🐈‍⬛🐹🚞🚞🚞💚

Saturday night I spent the evening among the stars ✨ These stars are also known as the talented, awesome people who created Disney Animation’s upcoming feature “Wish” ✨ @josie_t invited me to be her guest to the Wish Wrap Party and I had the most wonderful time watching the film and reuniting with old friends and work colleagues. It’s been 10 years since my time at WDAS ended, yet it felt like only a minute had passed once I saw the beautiful faces of the Disney peeps I hold so near and dear to my heart ❤️ Thank you Josie & congrats to Chris Buck, @fawnv and team on creating magic…and being stars ✨ #disney100 #disneyanimationstudios #wish #star
