POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Last week's After Dark at the @2oceansaquarium focused on the quiet moments, with @petrolstationpies and @freddylband treating us to stripped down sets of their usual unbridled energies onstage.

Big love to @mark_fitzy for keeping us informed, @jagermeistersouthafrica for keeping the drinks flowing, @audiopimps for making sure everything sounded crystal, and everyone else who came through and made the night what it was.

July's edition of #AfterDark26 at @2oceansaquarium with @akeeda.music & @porcelainmoon__ was a great way to slide into winter, by warming up courtesy of two blazing hot sets.

See you tonight for August's edition.

What a way to dive headfirst into this season of After Dark! Our first edition of the year at @2oceansaquarium was thoroughly enchanting.

We were mesmerised by the siren song of @akeeda.music who even treated us to some new material. Lucky fish we are. Then we rolled with the waves of @porcelainmoon__’s dazzling synthpop, brought gloriously to life with a full band. Big thank you to the best MC to do it, @mark_fitzy and to @jagermeistersouthafrica for keeping the night fresh.

Our next After Dark happens August 26 with @petrolstationpies and @freddylband. Catch you then! 📸 @laura.mcc_za

Yesterday the Marine Biology group wrapped up a great few days with Cape RADD with a boat trip than included great sightings and dropping a BRUV - and later analysis revealed great shark diversity on camera!

Leaving Simonstown behind the group stopped over at Stony Point Penguin colony to learn more about our gorgeous African Penguins before moving on to Gansbaai!

Sometimes everything aligns - weather, sea conditions, visibility, great instructors and an awesome group - and then magic happens…

The Ecology group had a day like this yesterday when learning about free-diving research at Cape Radd. Check out these cool pics from their time underwater. Big thanks to Mark for a great session!

And that’s the end of my two weeks with @discoveredensa in beautiful South Africa 🇿🇦

I am beyond grateful for the opportunities and experiences given to me— I will forever treasure them and I will take the vital skills I have learnt and use them in whatever comes next for me.

I want to say a huge thank you to Mark and Elton for this experience and I also want to thank the brilliant and inspirational people I met along the way: Jax, Mark at Cape Radd, Amy at Marine Dynamics and Tiaan.
I also want to thank the people that hosted us in their beautiful homes and provided us with the most amazing food!

To my lovely, hilarious and caring new friends, I will never forget you and I am so happy that I have made friends for life. How is it possible to form such deep connections with strangers all across the world in just two weeks? I wish you all the best in all that you do and I look forward to hearing about it when we meet again.

Thank you Discover Eden, and thank you South Africa ❤️

Directors note 🎞️

As ocean advocates and first-time filmmakers, the ocean has become a central part of how we live, think, and move through the world. Our individual journeys back to the ocean have been shaped by our identities, upbringings, and the personal ways in which exploring and learning from the ocean has made us feel.

We want to create a film set in the kelp forest that explores how, within South Africa’s social and historical context, access to the ocean can shape healing, identity, opportunity, belonging, and reconnection.

While highlighting the importance of a more inclusive and representative marine space, and the significance of the Great African Seaforest.

The history of South Africa reminds us that equal access and representation are not always afforded to all, and to this day, these inequalities continue to echo within our marine spaces.

Through this story, we hope to highlight the need to create more access within the marine space, where different lived experiences and backgrounds are recognised, valued, and reflected, and where ocean stories and protection can be amplified by ocean guardians from all backgrounds.

While celebrating the beauty and biodiversity of our incredible Great African Seaforest.

Our second shark science expedition could not have been more different from our first…

And that’s the point. We want to showcase the diversity and magic of our elasmobranch friends on our one of a kind shark science expeditions and we could not have been more happy to showcase the shysharks to the world on this trip 🩵🩵🩵🩵

Should we run another Cape Town trip?👀🤭
