I walked into @ibjjf Masters Worlds carrying a little more weight on my wrist this year.

The weight of more than 20 years on the mats.

The weight of thousands of students trusting me to help guide their journeys.

And now, the weight and responsibility that come with being promoted to fourth-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under the legendary @riganmachado 🥋

Four degrees may not look like much from the outside to some…

—but every degree represents years of learning, teaching, competing, building, failing, growing, and continuing to show up.

When I first found Jiu-Jitsu, I was just a young man fresh out of the US Army searching for direction.

I could never have imagined where these mats would take me—or how many people I would eventually have the privilege of serving through them.

Not isn’t a finish line.

Just a reminder that the higher the rank, the greater the responsibility to keep learning, keep leading, and keep helping others discover what Jiu-Jitsu can unlock in their lives.

Honored to arrive at the IBJJF Masters World Championship this year with four degrees on my black belt—and even more purpose behind it. 🙏🏾

One of the best parts about traveling around the 🌍 is experiencing different jiu-jitsu communities.

I couldn’t see the plan … but God could see ALL of it 🙏🏼

My parents’ divorce became the catalyst for one of the biggest decisions of my life.

At 18, I bought a one-way ticket to Hawaii.

At 19, I arrived with a few suitcases, an air mattress, and a dream ✨

I had no idea what God had planned for me, but I trusted He was leading me somewhere beautiful.

A few years later, I backpacked 6️⃣ Countries through Southeast Asia. When I came home, I fell in love with triathlons.

Then, in 2014, I lost my Momo 💔

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to follow in her footsteps and become a Realtor.

But it wasn’t until she went to Heaven that I truly understood the impact she had on people’s lives.

Listening to story after story about the way she loved people changed something in me.

I realized I didn’t just want to sell homes…

I wanted to love and serve people the way she did.

So I decided to carry on her legacy 🫶🏼

Not long after, I found MMA, and that decision led me to meeting the love of my life, my husband 💙💜

Today, God has blessed us with two incredible daughters, multiple business’ I love, authentic friendships, and a life I never could have imagined when I bought that one-way ticket ✈️

Every challenge shaped me.

Every disappointment redirected me.

Every closed door made room for something better 🌱

I’ve learned that obedience doesn’t always make life easier, but it always grows you 🙏🏼

If you’re walking through a hard season right now, keep going … after the rain comes the rainbow 🌈

One day you’ll look back and realize the season you wanted to escape became the foundation for the life you’re living today ✨

I hope you believe in God’s plan, even when you can’t see it (Jeremiah 29:11).

I hope you remember that your current chapter is not your final chapter.

And I hope you know you are fearfully and wonderfully made and DEEPLY LOVED for exactly who you are 🙌🏼

GiGi got her GRAY BELT!! 👏🏼🙌🏼

She has been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over a year now and honestly… the commitment this girl has shown is something else!!

And yes… she has absolutely been practicing on her baby sister since Mai’a was about six months old 😂

GiGi will happily tell YOU exactly how proud she is of herself… and she should be 🥹

Annnnd… I’m proud of Marcus and me too!!

Because kids don’t reach milestones like this alone. Behind every promotion, trophy 🏆, and milestone moment is a parent who loaded everyone in the car on the tired days… rearranged the schedule… sat through countless classes(even while entertaining a toddler too maybe lol(… and said, “We’re going,” even when skipping class would have been easier or staying home sounded a lot more comfortable 🫣

That’s the part nobody really talks about.

The C O N S I S T E N C Y…

And just shooowing up!!

One of the things I’m most grateful for is that we’ve built a life that allows us to be present for moments like these. Not just physically present (where I can leave my phone in the car, too!)… but truly there. Watching her grow in confidence… learning discipline… and enjoying the journey!!

So today we’re celebrating GiGi and her hard-earned gray belt 💜

And we’re celebrating every parent who keeps showing up for their kids, day after day!!! I see YOU!! 🙌🏼🎉🙌🏼🎉

Because let’s be honest… all those small moments and consistent efforts eventually become milestones like this 🥋

But even more importantly… they become the memories that make up THE MOST BEAUTIFUL LIFE that we will reminisce on when we are older 👩🏽‍🦳👨🏽‍🦳💙💜

My grass is green.

Not because everything is perfect…

But because I’ve learned to keep my eyes on what’s growing right in front of me 💜

And here’s what I’ve noticed lately…

So many Realtor Mommas feel like they’re falling behind.

Not because they’re actually behind.

But because they’re comparing this season to a completely different chapter.

Maybe a season before kids.

Maybe a season with one less child.

Maybe a season when everyone’s health was good.

Maybe a season when the market felt easier.

Maybe a season when your kids slept through the night (IYKYK)

Maybe a season when you had more capacity, more energy, or fewer responsibilities pulling at you.

Of course it looked different...

It WAS different.

And when we spend all our time looking backward…
or looking sideways…

We miss what’s growing right in front of us.

What if instead of focusing on where you used to be…
you took a moment to appreciate how far you’ve come?

YOUR Family.

YOUR Business.

YOUR Growth.

YOUR Season.

The grass is greener where YOU water it.

And right now…

I’m grateful for the grass I’m standing on 🥰🌿
And you should be too, Momma!!
