I have just finished a project for a local church, I can't reveal the final piece just yet but here are some of the progress shots.
I have learnt so much turning these, the importance of accurate measurements, using the original as the basis for the rest, tool presentation and above all process.
A huge thank you 🙏 to my good friend @marksanger_uk for his insight and help on this project.

We had a fantastic time at the @chestnutproducts Woodturning Weekender at @steammuseum in Swindon

We have attended all the previous events and every year they get better and better. This year though was the best so far as Andy was one of the headline demonstrators, demonstrating a 2 part hollow form and a small Japanese inspired form.

A huge thanks to Terry and the Chestnut Team for all the organising, planning and booking as well as everyone else who was involved in making this such a great event.

Thanks to @bazstarkeyturning69 for the photos, as we've had a memory card issue and we don't have any of the photos we took over the weekend

This past year I have worked hard to learn and improve my Woodturning skill levels. Looking at tool presentation design and finishing.

Last month I was assessed and I am honoured to share with you that I have been accepted onto the Register of Professional Turners. @rpturners

Whilst this is a result of my hard work, there is no way I could have achieved this without the support and encouragement of friends and family. There are too many people to list but my eternal thanks and gratitude goes to @beeswoodart who has stood by me and supported me every step of the way.
@marksanger_uk for the support, advice, insight and the amazing sense of humour along the way.
@chestnutproducts Terry has been supporting Bee and I from the very beginning always there with advice.

@noble.roots @thetinyturner @gentlemanwoodturner @breezewoodturning to name but a few who have all given support, advice and insights.

Thank you all 🙂

Nearly a year on and i am pleased with how my turning has improved.

Being accepted onto the register of professional turners @rpturners has changed my attitude towards the craft and how i represent it.

It has increased my desire for knowledge of the craft and how i can improve every piece i make.

Never be afraid of personal development or challenging yourself.

Thank you to everyone who pushed me to apply but especially
@colwinwaywoodturning
@marksanger_uk @davedalbywoodturning @richard_findley @thetinyturner

For their tuition and guidance

Burr oak hollow form
Turned from a 6x6x6" burr oak cube
Hollowed through a 25mm hole to a 3mm wall thickness.
This was a really challenging turning project and I count myself lucky to be able to call upon the sage advice and wealth of knowledge of @marksanger_uk

Finished with cellulose sanding sealer and microcrystalline wax

Timber supplied by @southwesternsawmill
Finishes from @chestnutproducts

Sometimes it's not about the end result but more about the journey of discovery, learning and pushing oneself to develop new skills.

Earlier this year that's exactly what Andy decided. A few years ago Bee arranged a days training with @marksanger_uk who took Andy through the basics of turning hollow forms.

With some advice and Mark's book (a brilliant and informative read, contact Mark direct for a copy) to hand Andy has begun his journey into hollowing.

These are green forms Andy is roughing to re-turn in a few months time.

Bee cannot wait to get her hands on them to start her creative process, but all things being equal the results of our creative processes will be unveiled over the next few months.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our learning and development and encouraged us to grow - you know who you are 🙏

Had a fantastic day turning a Holm Oak (Quercus Ilex) open form, this beautiful piece of timber has a lovely grain and some beautiful ripple running through it.

Boy this was a hard timber which loves to take the edge off the tools 🥵

Fortunately the @crownhandtools revolution hollowing tool made life so much easier especially as @marksanger_uk was on hand to answer the barrage questions I had.

A massive thanks to Mark who is a fountain of turning knowledge 🙏

Hey everybody and happy #TurningToolTuesday 🪵☀️
It’s Liz here and today I’m showing you my MIDI Hollowing Tool from Crown.
Top tip - set your tool rest back far enough so that when you pull back it doesn’t catch on your rest…

I’d love your thoughts or tips on sharpening, however do check out and follow @marksanger_uk’s YouTube channel, the demonstrations are really helpful and some extra tips about sharpening too.

That’s it for today, busy school holidays here, but I really want to see your #TurningToolTuesday reels and photos, so do keep posting!

Happy Tuesday

A quick post for #turningtooltuesday this is my first ever bowl gouge I had when I started turning, the beauty of the bowl gouge is that it will cut in different ways depending on how you present the tool to your timber.

@marksanger_uk gave a really insightful demonstration to our local club a few years ago showing how versatile this tool can be.

I'll never forget the joy of achieving a good bevel supported cut with the gouge leaving a beautiful burnished finish, or those lovely fine shavings flowing off the tool.

@love_heartwood sorry about the artsy shit, it look cool but you can barely see the tool 😂
