🎪 BOOK FAIR Those who watched my latest reel already know I hit the book fair hard last weekend… and somehow came home with 31 books 🤭📚 But here’s the thing, my TBR isn’t actually crying that much because I’ve already read and loved 19 of them! With limited bookshelf real estate in my house, my goal is to make sure my bookshelf includes only my absolute best 4 and 5⭐️ reads and I’m making a point to try and collect these where I have previously borrowed from the library. That way, if I lend a book to a friend, I already know it’s a guaranteed recommendation 😉 The other bonus is I already own some of these titles… and honestly they’re so good it felt criminal to leave them behind. So keep your eyes peeled because a giveaway might be coming very soon! 👀 So here’s the final list: BOOKS READ AND LOVED: * The Storied Life of AJ Fikry 4.5 ⭐️ * A Good Girls Guide To Murder 5 ⭐️ * The Kind Worth Killing 5 ⭐️ * The Maid 5 ⭐️ * The Disappearance of Astrid Bricard 4.5 ⭐️ * This Book Made Me Think Of You 5 ⭐️ * The Gambler 5 ⭐️ * Redbelly Crossing 5 ⭐️ * The Creeper 5 ⭐️ * Cutters End 5 ⭐️ * Paradise 4.5 ⭐️ * The Fall Between 4.5 ⭐️ * Malibu Rising 5 ⭐️ * The Lucky Sisters 4.5 ⭐️ * Blood and Gold 4.5 ⭐️ * One Hundred Years Of Dirt 4 ⭐️ * The Miller Women 5 ⭐️ * Opal 4 ⭐️ * Broken Bay 4.5 ⭐️ BOOKS NEW TO THE TBR: * The Mother * Things In Nature Merely Grow * The Killer Question * The Best Kind of Beautiful * Old Games * Kill Your Brother * Don’t Let Him In * Barren Cape * Unbury The Dead * The Lineup * Where Truth Ends * Rules For Perfect Murders A big congratulations to Bendigo Foodshare for raising more than $43,000 from the fair. That money helps support their incredible work rescuing good food from going to waste and getting it onto the tables of people doing it tough ♥️

Post-festival recap: First ten: The weekend started on Friday with a thick sea-mist which gave moody overtones. We had a super narrative art workshop at Glyph Gallery with Jane Farnan which produced some amazing results, and a Creative Journal writing workshop with Dr Stephanie Dowrick (not pictured). There was a very strange coincidence where art and creative journal writing workshops referenced the same painting - Bruegel’s Landscape with the Fall of Icarus (SUPER WEIRD) - then a Local Voices session at the library thanks to Claudia Matthews. We caught up briefly with Olivia Coates and Fiona Hardy meeting up in person as part of the inaugural Fellowship program sponsored by the Moyne Shire’s Creative Change grant (in conjunction with Fletcher Jones Family Foundation)… Then at 5pm there was an exhibition launch by Robert Gott of Jane Farnan’s exhibition, Yokoso, at Blarney Books & Art. Thenn we move over to the Reardon theatre. The evening opened with a launch of Hana Assafiri’s welcoming and inclusive art exhibition, before the U3A choir - with Eda Ritchie on the keys, and Bruce Macrae conducting - warmed up the Reardon Theatre. Dr Stephanie Dowrick opened with a keynote, and that was followed by a discussion of Jock Serong’s brand new book, the biography of Fletcher Jones himself, A Suitable Man. Tim Rogers and Jock Serong decked out in FJ vintage suits! Saturday morning began with Thrilling Women Jane Caro and Louise Milligan - and would have included Marg Hickey - brilliantly chaired by Jock Serong; followed by Stories that Travel, including Chris Raja, Christine Balint, Moreno Giavannoni and Maame Blue, also brilliantly chaired by David Francis. Then a young adult panel called Secrets and Lies, or Pulling No Punches, depending on which iteration of the program you were reading, brilliantly chaired by Fiona Hardy. Then a wonderful panel - What If … Fiction at the Edge of Reality - where the very creative, very upbeat Kate Mildenhall chaired a discussion between Michael Winkler (holding his allocated plush puppy), Brendan Colley (who scored an alien headpiece), Wayne Marshall (with a vintage Henry Lawson tome), and Jordan Prosser (with a red balloon).

I’ve never been to a lit fest I haven’t enjoyed, but there’s something truly special about the @port_fairy_literary_weekend. Enormous congratulations to Jo Canham and her team for creating such a generous and inclusive festival. The line-up is always staggeringly good, this year no exception. But it’s the sense of community that hits you between the eyes, from the Friday night opening until the very last event. Mingling with fellow book-lovers, guest authors and locals is a true delight. There were so many wonderful conversations that are still filling my mind, along with sublime poetry and song, stunning and provocative artwork by @hanaassafiri, the gift of hearing @thomasamayo recite the Uluru Statement from the Heart (not a dry eye in the house), and the wit and wisdom of @judyhoracek and Mag Merrilees. Adding to the fun was Caption This, a Robert Gott Naked Man cartoon - a very funny conversation starter and an inspired festival tradition! I hope these images inspire you to seek out some (or all!) of the books featured over the weekend - and to put this wonderful festival in your calendar for next year. Well worth the trip to this beautiful part of the world 🌊📚

Blissed out after a fabulous weekend in Port Fairy celebrating words and ideas and books and hope with writers and readers ❤️Enormous gratitude to festival director Jo Canham @blarneybooksandart and all those supporting her for bringing together such a terrific crew. Have come home feeling hopeful despite the mess of a time we are living through. As so many writers mentioned; now, more than ever, we need spaces we can come together and talk and listen and disagree and inspire and share ideas and art (made by humans) and Port Fairy Lit Weekend is one such space. Thank you to everyone (including all those I failed to grab pics with!) who shared writerly wisdom, big laughs, good convo and a short but excellent turn on the dancefloor at The Stump 😘 Very grateful to be part of this community x

A beautiful day at @port_fairy_literary_weekend, full of inspiration. I'm sparkling with ideas for stories and can't wait to get back to my desk. Today we travelled from stories about nature, taxidermy and bearded pigs, to exquisite and emotional poetry, on to intriguing stories of place, and turning the tropes on crime. Congratulations to Jo and Dean and everyone involved in this wonderful festival. It was truly a special experience. #portfairy #Australianbooks #AustralianAuthors #AustralianBookstagram
