#WeCurate because sometimes the best way to honor where your comic journey started is by revisiting the characters that hooked you from day one.

Day 19 of the June Jamboree hosted by The Comic Syndicate is Goldie Oldie, and while the theme is meant to showcase the oldest comic in your collection, I decided to twist it a little.

Instead, I’m spotlighting the character who had me completely locked in when I first started reading comics at six years old… Red Skull.

This incredible commission was done at HeroesCon 2026 by @markstegbauer, and it absolutely nails the creepy, unsettling vibe we were going for. My son wanted something dark, eerie, and different, and this delivered in a big way. Seeing Red Skull ripping away a lifelike Captain America mask to reveal himself underneath is pure nightmare fuel in the best possible way.

The expression, the detail, and the horror element all come together to create a piece that feels both classic and disturbing. I also love that Mark included the preliminary art with it—always cool getting a look into the creative process behind a commission.

Red Skull was one of the first villains that really stuck with me as a kid. Cold, calculating, ruthless—he was the perfect foil to Captain America and one of Marvel’s most iconic villains.
