Since opening STATE, the menu has continued to evolve alongside us. We’ve never been particularly interested in doing things the expected way. Our tastes, our experiences, the farm, and the ingredients that come and go with each season all find their way into what we cook. We like having room to experiment, to revisit familiar dishes, and to create something you might not find anywhere else.

Brunch is a particularly good place for that kind of freedom. A little sweet, a little savory. Something light alongside something rich. Comforting favorites next to dishes that might surprise you.

It’s all part of the way we cook, and the way we want you to experience STATE.

Join us for brunch Saturday and Sunday (reservations recommended, visit our website to save a table)🌞

A little taste of South Carolina/Creole Style, right here in the heart of Iowa…

There’s something special about bringing different culinary traditions together, especially when you’re cooking for a great group of people…

A big batch of Southern inspired Jambalaya Rice utilizing Carolina Gold Rice, Fried Chicken mixing in my flour mix some good Jimmy Red Cornmeal and Cheddar Yellow Grits, all these amazing products from @marshhenmill

From the South to the Midwest… we keep cooking

We have some really exciting news!! Something new is coming to Merchants on Main!!! 👀 👀 👀

If you have ever been to Edisto then you know exactly what's about to hit our shelves!!

Very soon you will be able to shop products from Marsh Hen Mill at our storefront.

Edisto is a special place that has been a part of our family for generations. We have spent countless hours making memories on this beloved island!

One of our favorite places to stop has always been Marsh Hen Mill (previously known as Geechie Boy). When we opened our store, we knew we wanted their products on our shelves! And now we get to share them with you!!

We love their mission, what they stand for, and quality of their products! Try them for yourself very soon!

I've always insisted that I hate grits. Apparently it's just the cheap supermarket grits I hate because well... #homemade #potroast served over @marshhenmill heirloom Jimmy Red Grits. None of the potatoes in the pot made it to the plate because they turned out to be superfluous. I can't wait to try some of the other grains. #HomeCooking

We recently hosted our 2nd annual Green Meal on Greene Street! 🌿 A sustainability-focused family style dinner right outside of Russell House. Our menu was curated entirely of locally sourced ingredients, provided by nearby farms. We also partnered with local businesses @boonefoxfarm @edistogoldhoney @drinktractor to create gift bags with local products to take home. We want to thank our guest speakers from @commonmkt @marshhenmill and Edisto Gold Honey for educating our guests about sustainable practices. And a special thank you to our Sustainability Coordinator, Camryn, and Chef Bear and Chef Ryan for bringing this magical event to life through their culinary creations. 💚🪴 #greenmealongreenest #dinelikeagamecock #carolinafoodco

Since we are bringing a little flavor from the South to the Midwest, right here in Iowa…

Pairing with the amazing Crawfish that one of our clients from Louisiana brought, I want it to utilize the amazing products from @marshhenmill and what better than some good Yellow Grits.

•CRAWFISH ÉTOUFFÉE•

There’s something special about working with ingredients that have a story behind them and you can see and taste the craftsmanship in every grain.

Ready to do some more good stuff with their amazing products
