POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

NEW RESIDENT PODCAST (Eng)
Interdisciplinarity ep 1
by @britishschoolatrome curated by @martapellerini

Interdisciplinarity is a series of dialogues between fellows who have spent a period of residence at the British School at Rome.
The BSR is one of the many foreign Academies present in Rome, which represent individuals who are emerging in the public sphere and inserting themselves in the city's extraordinary cultural heritage.

Artists and academics live together for several months, establishing not only interpersonal relationships, but often also professional collaborations, thanks to a constant sharing of knowledge that embraces multiple disciplines. In many cases this exchange leads to the discovery of affinities and overlaps among award holders' researches, which relate in new and unexpected ways.

In this series of podcasts, an artist and an academic from the BSR will be in conversation, comparing their research practices and exploring new possible approaches and collaborations.

The guest of the first episode are Bea Bonafini (Abbey Scholar 2019/2020 at the British School at Rome) and Eóin Parkinson (CRASSH/British School at Rome Fellow 2019-2020).
The conversation for Interdisciplinarity will focus on their research interests, which both revolve around the body, its life after death, its formal aspects, the configurations of its dismemberment and dispersion, and then working backwards, to its life before death.

Marta Pellerini, ‘Primitive Survival Skills’, Videobao curated by Giulia Pollicita on the occasion of the Videoart Week of Videocittà, 19-26 November. .
.
The idea of having “survival skills” means different things to different people. For those living in teeming metropolises such as Hong Kong, this involves an ability to navigate jam-packed streets, keep your sanity and secure a seat on the train before someone else grabs it.
Then there are the “primitive living” survivalists. These people – usually men – leave the comforts and annoyances of civilisation for days or weeks in order to play at surviving in the wild on their wits alone.
Real purists take nothing from civilisation with them. Instead, they make their own tools and weapons for hunting from wood, bamboo and stone. They build their own dwellings from whatever materials are at hand. And they’ll eat anything they can stomach.
The most famous YouTube survivalist is Australian John Plant, who in his videos is a Robinson Crusoe-type character: he’s a loner, wears only a tatty pair of shorts, and never says a word. His Primitive Technology channel has more than 8.5 million followers and almost 54 million views. However, the trend has caught on in Southeast Asia and Plant now has serious competition from several groups of survivalists who are also making waves on YouTube.
The looped video in Una Vetrina, downloaded from the Brave Survival Life channel, shows the building of an underground pool. The two men dig into the earth almost perfectly synchronized and hypnotize the viewer with their construction skills, keeping the attention close to the screen until the final result.

.
.

Contributors from different fields, such as arts, curatorship, music and graphic, have been asked to freely select pre-existent video excerpts to be broadcasted in loop for 24h inside Una Vetrina, one day for each of them. Inspired to the ‘68 practice of the Dazibao, Videobao is a space of free expression the contributors are given to in order to send a revolutionary message to casual passerby of Una Vetrina. .
.
💥Just take a sit and enjoy the shows from November 19 to 27. ✨
