Chasing rainbows 🌈
I’ve just realised I meant to post this on my personal @marthalilyt however. I’m leaving it here & will collab.

I can get sooooo particular about this account.

Today absolutely did not go to plan but did orders early morning.
Then after a three point turn in the lorry enjoyed a blustery pretty hack back HOME 🤦‍♀️ with Madgey & so grateful to mum coming on the bike. So nice to chat & hack.
Co working with @auntiejessys (cake was such a bonus!)
Then a sports massage from @timmy.orritt_sports.therapy for the girls & for us. It was SO needed. Catch-up was another bonus 🥹

Loving seeing so many rainbows lately. Drove through one too today. Read something recently that said if you’re not seeing the beautiful things, you may be moving too fast. It’s so true.

Got very upset about zophs again. Feel like a broken record. It’s just the random things that get you. With the combination of life yno just lifing.

Very excited for some sun next week. Out of office Sun 11th- back sat 17th

This sat in my notes app for a few months. It’s grown as the years evolved & I felt brave enough to share it.

I’ve fallen off the band wagon with socials for the (imo) very forgiveable reason that I’ve been out doing the job for the very reason I have this page to promote🫠

I’m no @millygoldsmith though inspired by. I’ve always craved deep conversations & honesty.

I know for sure I won’t be alone in some of these feelings and hope that at least one tiny part resonates with you.

I hope you’re doing ok, lots of love.

Zophie & shaping my career as a photographer.

Because I want to keep writing about you & because the caption was overflowing in the last post.

Zophs never made being a model when I started out with photography, the easiest.
We’d bought the most pretty pony.
So naturally, I thought she would be the most angelic and photogenic.
I thought wrong. So wrong.
Ears flat back, queen of the mare stare.

She’s put up with so much so many ideas. She’s not been shy to say she’s not best pleased, but loved the pampers and attention really.

When we took her to prom she stood like an angel and adored all of the attention. (Everyone was there to see her right?)

Our last few shoots she was hilarious. It kind of prevented the crying (ok maybe not so much in those last ones, I was totally kidding myself thinking it wasn’t obvious I’d been crying even with editing)

But I’m so grateful to have had you in my life but also to teach me so much.
Martha Lily Photography would absolutely not be what it is today without you.

Book the photoshoot. I don’t care if your horse is naughty. I had one of the cheekiest.
Don’t wait.

Missing you Zoph, I accidentally made an extra haynet for you today.
Martha. Xx

Today, our hearts are more than a little broken.
This isn’t just a post about saying goodbye. It’s a post about gratitude.🧡

Buying a pony is always a leap of faith, but this little 14.1hh mare came into our lives and changed ours forever.

Because of Zophie, I really learned to ride… and, if I’m honest, I’m still learning.
She gave our girls the most magical childhood. Pony Club, camps, fun rides, beach rides, summers at The Isle, laughter, freedom and memories that will stay with us forever.
She carried me from being a nervous rider to competing. There was plenty of questionable plaiting along the way, and somehow we even made it to Elementary dressage. We even danced Dressage to Music together, something I’d dreamed of doing for years.
Zophie also became the most unlikely babysitter, patiently looking after nervous horses and children taking their very first rides.
She gave us adventures too. Weeks away in Wales, holidays together and galloping along the beach with the sea beside us. The sort of moments every horse rider dreams about.
Then we moved to our own little piece of heaven, where she spent her days doing what she loved most… simply being a horse. I’m so grateful we could give her that in return.
Today, I want to say thank you.
Thank you to every single person who has been part of our journey. The friends who stood at the side of arenas, called tests, offered advice, lent equipment, drove countless pony taxis, celebrated the wins and picked us up after the wobbles.
To the instructors who became friends and believed in me just a little more than I believed in myself. Justine, Sarah and Dean… thank you for every gentle nudge out of my comfort zone.

I held my breath as Martha flew round a hunter trial with you and cried as they crossed the finish line together. I watched with so much pride as Nancy rode you at Pony Club rallies and shone.
You didn’t just carry us.
You carried our childhoods, our confidence, our dreams and our hearts.
Thank you, Zophie, for every ride, every lesson, every adventure and every friendship that came because of you.
You have my whole heart. 🧡

Goodbye our zophs. Our girl.
17 years with you, 14 year old me couldn’t believe how lucky she was.

I’ve been doing you a disservice (understatement) up until recently I’d said I’d never have another you, and that you shredded my confidence.
But I take it all back, you actually gave me it. Yes, I ate dirt more times than I’d like to admit. Destroyed fences and waited what felt like an eternity for the bell to go again, but I never would have attempted what we achieved without your gumption & your “athletic” jump as the lady we bought you from said.
I could never have another you because there is no other you.
I’m so grateful for the lows, because without them it wouldn’t be you, it wouldn’t be our history, I wouldn’t appreciate those high highs because my goodness there were some insane highs.
You were you were an overachiever in all aspects of your life, whether it was running away because you didn’t want be caught,
or because you didn’t want your fly mask on, to standing at the gate begging to come back in.
You were a complete princess.

Wasn’t too sure what to say here. Just wanted to share these, for me mainly.
Our beautiful girl. 🌹

We took a few more photos together last night, recreated some close-ups I’d always wanted, and I embraced my freckles instead of covering up the different tones in my skin. A bit different.

I’m just so grateful to have these memories & to have right now.

There were some really lovely moments bumbling around the yard last night all dressed up taking photos of mum too. Really really in the feeling & especially last night of how grateful I am to have this kit, this career and creativity. Granted I can be insanely hard on myself. But appreciating it all right now.

Another day, another post from my shoot from the other day with our gorgeous Zophie. Something I always strive to capture when I’m on the normal side of the camera (shooting!) is the quiet moments my clients usually only get to feel, but now they’ll get to see that feeling reflected back as art.

Having shoots myself puts me back in your shoes & it is so great. When “posing” (it’s not really posing it’s just chilling with your pony) myself I made sure to relax into it. To soften my hands & lean where possible.

In my shoots I’m always loving the real natural moments, the sweeping hair out of your face, the resting a hand on their wither, the leaning into their side. The big “I really love you, you know” hugs.

This is why I do what I do and I know it’s a complete and utter privilege for you to ask me to come & photograph the bond of you & your horse. Memories to cherish forever.

August now only 1 space
September 2 spaces
From 5 9 5 & split the cost available.

I can’t tell you enough, don’t wait.

A while back a client asked me if we could recreate some old photos of her and her horse. Last week I did the same with our darling Zophs. She is nearly always pulling a face and I’ve never minded in these close knit photos. They’re focused on you…. or the treat.

Can’t thank my friend @jadeligusphotography enough. (Edited by me)

Do the shoot. Don’t wait.

Eight years ago we got the keys to this place, and somehow it’s become the home that has all of us love with our whole heart.

our family has grown around the edges in the loveliest way”
The boys have bought a new level of homeliness from kitchen discos to communal cooking it’s bloody brilliant

It’s still a work in progress (I’m not convinced that ever changes!), but it’s filled with everything I love... family, friends, horses, muddy boots, projects that aren’t quite finished, and more laughter than I can put into words.

It’s not perfect, but then neither are we. And honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️

✨ Hiho’s Backdrops for 2026 ✨

Our backdrops enjoyed their first show in the limelight last week at @bhorsetrials – and we think they looked rather wonderful!

It was so lovely to see many of our backdrop competition winners stopping by the stand to spot their photographs on the walls. Thank you so much for coming to find us 💜

We’re now looking forward to taking them with us as we head into another busy summer show season.

Have you spotted them yet? ✨
