Have you ever worked an election?🗳️

I did my Poll Worker training this week, and I’m really looking forward to working my second election in November!

I did it for the first time back in June, when Election Day in NYC happened to fall on my birthday! 🎂

When I came back from my dinner break, the team I was working with put together a little surprise ice cream birthday celebration for me. 🍨

Republicans and Democrats came together to sign a card, sing me happy birthday and give me hugs.🤍

I loved that.🥰

Getting involved in your community doesn’t always require an enormous commitment. Sometimes it’s a few hours of training, a day of working with your neighbors, and a willingness to show up and do your part.

I’m really glad I dud it in June, and I’m looking forward to doing it again in November!🗳️

Do you own something you thought you didn’t need… until you got one?

I get it now, @thegraceclarkdelgado 🤍🩵

And I have a feeling this won’t be my last.

Grace knows me so well. She picked the @llbean Small with the zip top + long handles 🤍🩵because she knows the Mini would be too small … I like to have my stuff with me!

I love that I can plan an “ordinary day”, a doctor’s appointment, a couple errands, and somehow it never ends up ordinary.

Not here.

I had a follow-up with my doctor, and was super excited to tell him I’m doing so much better — but then he tells me fhe’s moving to Connecticut.😕 But Happy Trails Dr. V!

I’ve been a @panerabread Sip Club girl for 2 or 3 years now. If I’m out and there’s a Panera anywhere in the area, I’m there.🥤

@thegraceclarkdelgado gave me this @llbean Boat & Tote for my birthday in my favorite color with my initial on it, and I love it. This is my first one, she’s got a collection!⚓️

We stopped at @fishseddy to cool off (their air conditioning was amazing). You can’t walk out of that store without a smile and something(s) special.✨

After a quick stop for flowers at Union Square Farmers Market(it was too hot to stick around long) we stepped into @salmagundiclub to cool off for a bit. Grace was there last week for an event, and I couldn’t believe I’d never been there before! It’s open to the public and free to visit — I’ll definitely be back to see all the exhibits.

Just an “ordinary“ NYC afternoon.🩵

When I signed up to work the NYC election I realized it was on my birthday, but I thought, “What a unique way to kick off my next year!”

That’s before I realized it meant waking up at 4:00 AM, a 16-hour shift, and getting home past 10 PM…exhausted.

And I really wasn’t expecting what happened at the end of the day — 20 people I’d only met that morning — making sure I was celebrated on my birthday. 🎉

I’ll share more in my next video about what it was like being part of a team made up of Republicans and Democrats — sharing one goal, seeing firsthand everything that goes into making Election Day happen, and why I’m so glad I did it.

You spend years teaching your kids.

Then they grow up, and you realize how much they’re teaching you.

Watching my kids become completely themselves inspires me to keep becoming more of myself.

Being a mom of adult kids has turned out to be one of the greatest gifts of my life.🩵

One of the things I like most about myself…

I’m open to changing my mind.
Seeing things differently.
Trying new places.
Meeting new people.

But this wasn’t always true.

For a long time, I thought life was supposed to look a certain way, and that I was supposed to think about things a certain way.

Turns out letting go of “the way it’s supposed to be” has made life so much better.🩵 #Highlinenyc
