Thank you @eddieadamsworkshop for giving me the opportunity to experience the melodic world of @juliangiaimo for two days. Walking Daisy Mae, meeting Bumi, listening to Alabama Shakes in the car and hearing Brat through immersive audio with Julian was truly a blast. I never thought I would be able to make decent photos in a dim room, but his curated home studio, filled with memorabilia, made it possible.

I’m so very grateful for my dear Team Tie-Dye and the leadership of @maryfcalvert, @jacquelinelarma, @juanarre and JoJo. Every one of you inspires me in different ways. Together we are all the colors. Portfolio reviewers, speakers, black team, white team, everyone I crossed paths with in the five days, your generosity fills my heart.

To my 99 new friends on this long yet exciting road, your camaraderie and support are unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I can’t wait to see more from you shining stars 💫🌈❤️ #eddieadamsworkshop

‘Sweet Sixteen’ is a project developed during the @eddieadamsworkshop. It follows Carly, a talented sportswoman from the United States, during her 16th birthday celebration.

These photos wouldn’t have been possible without the work and care of my mentors. I’m so grateful for your help, guidance, advice, and patience, @maryfcalvert (team leader), @jacquelinelarma (editor), Joe Eddins (tech), and @juanarre (producer), who searched for the topic, arranged the interviews and the fixing, and also selected, edited, sequenced, and toned these images to shape them into a story. You are absolutely amazing, and I’m so grateful for this journey.

I’m so thankful for having been one of the 100 photographers selected for the XXXVIII edition of the Eddie Adams Workshop and to be part of the tie-dye team <3.

I had the chance to meet fantastic photographers and storytellers from all around the world, attend incredibly interesting talks from brilliant photographers, hang out with an American family during a sweet sixteen birthday party, attend portfolio reviews with brilliant editors and photographers who gave me invaluable advice, and learn lessons that will stay with me for the years to come.

There was also an absurdly delicious banquet every day (shoutout to @judywalgren, I want those cake recipes <3), bonfires, live music, and test gear and prints provided by @canonusa, among many, many more things that were seamlessly organized by the volunteer photographers, editors, and professionals who integrated the black team.

I also got one of the awards given to the students, lighting gear that I can’t wait to use.

If you are a photographer, apply next year. This has definitely been one of the best experiences of my life, and I can’t wait to put to work everything I’ve learned.

Thank you for helping me push forward. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

TEAM LEADER HIGHLIGHTS
We’re honored to welcome alum (1990) @maryfcalvert Mary Calvert as a Team Leader at this year’s Eddie Adams Workshop.

Mary is dedicated to using photography as a tool for meaningful social change, focusing on under-reported and neglected gender-based human rights issues. In recent years, she has turned her lens toward the relegation and abuse of women and men in the U.S. Armed Forces—a body of work that was a finalist for the 2020 Pulitzer Prize in Feature Photography and has earned international recognition.

Her powerful storytelling has won numerous awards, including honors from the World Press Photo Contest and the Cliff Edom New America Award, and has been supported by grants from Getty Images and the Alexia Foundation. Mary is also a 2017–2018 John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellow in Photography.

At the Workshop, Mary brings her passion for shining light on overlooked stories and her commitment to truth, justice, and impact—guiding the next generation of storytellers to use their craft as a force for change.
