If you're a coach what's your #1 piece of advice to level up? I'm running #CIM again in December. I've been doing VO2 max workouts, marathon pace workouts and long runs each week thus far. I plan on increasing miles with 2 peak weeks at around 60ish miles. My peak long run will be around 22 miles.

Is there one workout that will help me get that BQ, I'm 46 so I'm guessing I will need to run in the the 3:08 -3:09 range.

Things are starting to come together for my first marathon in 6 weeks with the New York City Marathon! 🗽

The workout today was a 17 mile long run with 11 miles at easy pace and the last 6 at 8:30-8:20.

My easy pace ended up being faster than my target working pace, so pushed the pace on my last 6.

Practicing fueling on my long runs and even practiced race day by starting my long run late today to simulate the late start for NYC.

A few more weeks to bring the work before I start my taper!

San Diego America’s Finest City Half Marathon!

I was targeting a 1:35 and fell a bit short of that goal. I went out a bit too aggressive on the early downhill, which caused my left hamstring and right calf to start cramping on the uphill in the 12th mile. With a 7:20 pace my HR stayed in the 140s, so just need to focus on building stronger legs to keep up with my cardio!

I have come a long way in the first year of my running journey. Last August, I was still not cleared to start running yet, following my heart attack on July 4th. I focused on walking to get healthier and in September I walked my first half Marathon in 3 hours. After a couple month of cardiac rehab, I was cleared to start running and slowly started progressing my mileage, mixing in running with my walking.

Last December, I ran my first half marathon in 2:07 minutes, right before I started working with my running coach @mason.adonis

Mason brought structure, focus, and intent to my training, helping me become the best version of myself.

In 2026 so far, my PR times:

🌼 5K - 20:28 (Kirkwood Spring Fling)
🍑 10K - 41:35 (Peachtree Road Race)
🌴 Half Marathon - 1:36:51 (San Diego AFC)

Next up, the 🗽 New York City Marathon!

I am just getting started and in year 2 I will get a sub 19 5K, sub 40 10K and sub 1:30 Half!
