Why Hamburg?” If I could get a penny for every time I’ve been asked this question, I’d be very rich! “The weather is not the best.”

When I give strategic input, I often talk about the identity of place. A city has to lean into what makes it itself. And if rain is sometimes synonymous with Hamburg, then why not make an experience out of it?

Sixteen of us walked through Hamburg under a sky that couldn’t decide between rain and sunshine, stopping at two galleries (@massoumi.gallery) (@galeriekaufmann) and an exhibition space (@thespace.city) along the way.

But somewhere between the artworks, the rain, the questions and the quiet moments of looking, something shifted. We stopped trying to understand everything.

We just looked. We noticed colours. Shapes. Details. Things we might normally walk past as we walked through mindful exercises guided by Dr. Deniz Küçüker of @ara.mekan. We got curious. We asked questions. We laughed. We lingered.

Like kids again.

And maybe that’s the beauty of culture, it gives us permission to be curious without needing all the answers.

Thank you to everyone who joined our Mindful Culture Walk, to the galleries and cultural spaces who welcomed us, and to Dr. Deniz, @wachsworldwide, and @lena.caroline.hoffmann for guiding us through those moments of mindful looking.

Come rain, come sun, Hamburg showed up, And so did we. 🤍 I am glad to see the vision of @crossingcurrentshamburg come alive.

Culture moves forward.

IS THIS STILL A PERFORMANCE?

Zandile Darko and Analu Fretta work without a fixed choreography. TALKING DANCES develops in real time through improvised movement, writing, spoken word and audience interaction, accompanied by bassist John Eckhardt. Each iteration responds to the exhibition and the people present, and exists only once. Be sure not to miss it!

Unbedingt miterleben!
