Last October we selected and planted our bulbs and last garden day we had the pleasure of harvesting our cared for garlic heads 🧄

Some walking types mixed in so keep an eye out for them sprouting around the our @garden_department !

Looking back at 𝒻𝓁𝑜𝓊𝓇, 𝓌𝒶𝓉𝑒𝓇, 𝓈𝑜𝒾𝓁 and all the beautiful gatherings that came with it 🌾

We want to express our deepest gratitude for everyone who made this show possible, whether it was by participating in the learning sessions, attending the screenings, buying items on the festive market day, collectively building a clay oven or through a fortuitous visit to our space. We are extremely grateful for everyone who showed up in their own way ❤️

Sunday marked the closing of flour, water, soil. It has been a truly special process—one shaped through long-term dialogue, collective thinking, and imagining otherwise with Margarita Osipian. @margaritaoooo

Thinking alongside and exhibiting with Areej Ashhab, Common Ground (Saja Amro & Anna Celda), Ola Hassanain, Ai Ozaki, and belit sağ opened a space for profound dialogue, learning, and exchange.

While I’m saddened that flour, water, soil has come to an end, I’m deeply grateful for the community it has held, and for the conversations, friendships, and collaborations it has made possible.

Looking back at the finissage of 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳, 𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳, 𝘴𝘰𝘪𝘭 ⭐️

Last Sunday July 12th, we gathered at W139 for a festive market day in celebration of the final day of the exhibition! We want to give a warm thank you for everyone who celebrated with us and all the artists who participated in the market: @salim_five_and_thursday @bissara_salim , @allouchewael @metti_fatma, @masssamama, @anna__kooi, @colectivo_amasijo, @patatespip, @iljaschamle, @mariakhatchadourian and @margaritaoooo. And a special thank you for the beautiful performance to @mucha_mucha_cha and @areedge.

On June 13 we were welcomed by @four.siblings.collective at @buurtwerkplaats_noorderhof for 𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘯 𝘢𝘴 𝘬𝘪𝘯, a day of gathering, firing and cooking! 🫓🌸🌽🔥

Together we fired the tonir-style oven which was made during the first installment of 𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘯 𝘢𝘴 𝘬𝘪𝘯. With colectivo amasijo (@colectivo_amasijo) we cooked tamales. Tatiana M. Melo (@tatiana__mmelo) taught us how to bake vegetables in clay and how to make bread sculptures. Common Ground (Anna Celda (@masssamama) and Saja Amro (@sajaamr)) showed us how to make flatbread and salsa from roasted vegetables using the tonir-style oven. maria khatchadourian (@mariakhatchadourian) contributed with a nice and hearty porridge. One of the participants even jumped in with his arepas expertise!

We want to thank everyone who joined and gathered for this feast. Thank you for sharing your recipes, knowledge and stories about food!

Join us on Sunday 12 July for 𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘴, a free festive market day in celebration of the final day of 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳, 𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳, 𝘴𝘰𝘪𝘭!

On this final day we will come together in the spirit of this exhibition that has been unfolding through acts of gathering. By gathering we will activate the works one last time and look back upon our conversations, reading sessions, workshops, shared meals, foraging, and collective actions—gestures that have continued beyond the works themselves. Free entry for all!

@salim_five_and_thursday will sell his Bissara Salim @bissara_salim , @allouchewael his Metti harissa @metti_fatma. There will be riso-printed posters from @colectivo_amasijo and tinctures and salves from local foraged plants by @patatespip and @iljaschamle. @commongroun.d will be joining, @mariakhatchadourian and @margaritaoooo will be making Zhingyalov hats bread, and we will have a very special performance by @mucha_mucha_cha and @areedge.

𝘍𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘉𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘱 by Common Ground (@commongroun.d)

Flour is a fundamental material of life. The flour bag is its container and carrier. It’s an object that holds systems of labour, land, and exchange. The image of the flour bag is embedded into our collective imaginary: stacked on fortified pallets, made to wait on trucks at borders, or scattered on the ground, stained red. These images make visible what global food infrastructures obscure: the weaponization of food dependency and hunger.

This work by Common Ground sketches a genealogy of flour: it traces a network of mills where grain, often grown great distances away, is processed into flour before moving through bakeries and into homes.

In this installation, the flour bags function simultaneously as a building block, a pedagogical tool, and as an invitation: a place to sit, gather, and learn. Join Common Ground this Sunday 28 June during 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘦… a collective learning session on the fragility of global food infrastructures, where they will activate 𝘍𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘉𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘱.

@commongroun.d is a collaborative artistic project by Anna Celda (@masssamama) and Saja Amro (@sajaamr). Using the dining table and kitchen as learning environments, their projects delve into topics such as female labor, inherited knowledge, and food/famine as a tool for control.

Common Ground invites you to the second edition of 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘦… Sunday 28 June at W139 🌾

Together with Bread Buffet, @commongroun.d hosts the second activation of 𝘍𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘉𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘱, their installation which will become a learning space and a work site. In this session they will think through the systems that shape how food moves, who has access to it, and what kinds of dependencies are built into everyday nourishment.

How did food become infrastructure? What does “civilization” have to do with grain? What forms of labor, extraction, and control sustain contemporary grain distribution systems? What knowledge have we lost through industrialization and centralization? And what might resilience, interdependence, and self-sufficiency look like in the future?

Bring your curiosity, experiences, doubts, and questions, and join Common Ground in slowing down to think collectively about the fragile systems that sustain us, and the possibilities for building others. There will be snacks and drinks provided.
