What a great way to wake up this morning! Feeling the deafening quiet of the empty house this week and wondering if the kids are surviving so far away. Then I get this sent to me in a text! Syd got awarded her official locker name plate this morning at practice! It’s official! She’s a Wildcat now!

Dropping our daughter, Sydney, off for her freshman year at Northern Michigan University was easily one of the hardest things we’ve ever done as parents. 💚💛
We officially drove away from Marquette, but it truly feels like we left half of our hearts behind in the Upper Peninsula. Coming back home to such a quiet house is a completely surreal feeling. The silence is deafening, and the adjustment is so unbelievably tough.
Even through the tears, we are bursting with pride. We know she is going to do amazing things both in the classroom and in the pool as a Wildcat on the swim team! 🏊‍♀️💨
Go Wildcats! We love you so much, Sydney! 💚💛 #NMU #WildcatNation #ProudParents #CollegeBound #SwimMom #SwimDad

Dropped @t_matheny12 off for his junior year adventure at S&T! Got him all situated in his new house and met a couple of his new swimming housemates! We even had time to do maintenance on the house AC...can't have those boys sweating! Go do amazing things this year buddy!! Mom and I will be here when you come home.

Some reunions are just good for the soul. 💕

These ladies will always hold such a special place in my heart. As teammates, I couldn’t have asked for a safer space to laugh, cry, vent, and grow. They had my back during some of my most difficult years as a teacher. From coming back from maternity leave as a first-time mom to questioning whether teaching was even something I could do for the rest of my life, they supported me in ways I didn’t even know I needed.

Call it a trauma bond or just pure luck, but everybody needs a Melissa & Joanna in their lives! I miss seeing you two every day, but I am so thankful I still have you both in my corner. Love you so big!

Second to last summer club meet of her life! 14 years at @cooldellswimdive. Syd was the only senior this year for senior night but she still represented “Sydney style” with help from her teammates! #upbound #nmuwildcats #c-dragons
