Thank you @kunzum for hosting the India launch of The Lights of Shantinagar.

The afternoon began with Indian Gen Z showing the country what they can do when they get together and flex their uber cool muscle. They gave us all hope!

The evening progressed to the loveliest, warmest launch of the book. We spoke about nerdy characters, strong women, about the language we think in versus the language we write in and of course, quantum physics. An evening with family, friends and book lovers, it felt like a homecoming for the book and me, in more ways than one.

A big thank you to my publisher @wiltonsquarebooks and @penguinindia for making this happen.

Thanks to @matildabattersby and @_thebookseller for highlighting this growing problem for LGBTQ+ authors.

@krahimwrites and I have talked a lot about this and shout out to her for taking this conversation wider and to @jencarney76 for sharing her experiences here too.

If this concerns you, here are some things you can do....

1. EVERYONE Encourage your local school to stock books by LGBTQ authors. Even gift them if you can.

2. PARENTS Chat to your child's teacher and to parent friends about why you support diverse storytelling. Make sure schools hear that they DO have parent support. Encourage an author visit perhaps...

3. EVERYONE Visit your local library and borrow our books. Tell the library staff how much you value seeing diverse books for young people.

4. AUTHORS If you are an LGBTQ+ author and member of @thesocietyofauthors join our new LGBTQ+ network. Contact SOA or DM me to find out more.

5. TEACHERS If you are a teacher or school librarian, thank you for all you to promote our books. Have a restful summer and keep up the great work you do xx

✍️📚 The 2026 Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize ceremony on 21 May was a very special evening.

It was heartwarming to witness the moment @annaholdhaz received the Prize for her novel-in-progress, “A Geography of Escape”, meet our shortlisted authors, and reunite with shortlisted authors from previous years.

This year’s judging panel was chaired by broadcaster and writer @voguewilliams and included novelist @ela__lee, Viking Publishing Director @harriettalks, College Assistant Professor and Director of Studies in English Dr Clare Walker Gore, and Emeritus Fellow Dr @isobel_maddison.

Vogue delivered thoughtful comments on each of the shortlisted pieces, leading up to the final announcement.

Interested in submitting your work? The Prize will return for 2027, opening for submissions on 19 October 2026!

Another year, another #Nibbies 🏆

One of the best @thebritishbookawards ceremonies I’ve been to with some incredible speeches and moments throughout the night. As well as being a joyful celebration of impactful books and the amazing people who create and share them, it was an important reminder of the power of the stories as a source of both pleasure and resistance.

Plus I got to hang out with genuine legends like Michael Rosen, Helen Oxenbury, @dapsdraws, @theselinabrown, @imogenrussellwilliams and my brilliant and beautiful @_thebookseller colleagues who make it all happen ✨

Which three authors would you invite for dinner? What would be on the menu? 🥑🍜

We asked these two questions to our previous winners and shortlistees - they had the best responses! 📖🏆
