Secret Weekend was a truly unique boutique festival held at the gorgeous Hola Beach Resort, an artistic beachside retreat known for its breathtaking bamboo sculptures, beach glamping, and stunning Cabanas that offer breathtaking views of the ocean. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by a whimsical entrance made entirely of bamboo, featuring a stunning sculpture of a woman’s head. As we entered the festival grounds, we were immediately drawn to the Spaceship stage, which was adorned with pyramids and pumping out upbeat reggae music that set the tone for the day.
After breezing through check-in, we strolled over to the Abstract Market and Vendor Village, where we discovered a wide range of unique jewelry, accessories, bags, and sunglasses. As the sun began to set, the energy at the festival began to build, and Saigon Soul Revival took to the stage, treating the audience to an electrifying performance of psychedelic, Americana-inspired funk, soul, and rock ‘n’ roll that had the entire beach buzzing with excitement.
On day two, the festival truly came alive with a stacked lineup of performers, including drag, fire artists, and a 12-member afrobeat band called Osoko. Indy Laville’s unique blend of psychedelic-techno was a standout performance, featuring mesmerizing guitar riffs, soaring saxophone solos, and hypnotic drum machines and synths. DICERS also put on an unforgettable show with their four-piece live techno set, showcasing their mastery of sequencers, drum machines, synths, and effects.
The evening ended with an eclectic mix of DJs spinning a wide range of dance music that kept the crowd moving until the wee hours of the morning. Genderfunk’s over-the-top drag performances and Saipa Fire Arts’ traditional fire dancing were just a few of the other highlights that made the festival an unforgettable experience.
As Sunday rolled around, the festival maintained its strong programming and vibe, with multiple soulful sets occurring throughout the day. All in all, we were thrilled to have been a part of the 6th edition of Secret Weekend, and we can’t wait to see what next year’s festival has in store.”
