POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Have recent tech headlines shaped how SISTERS playwright Matthew Libby views his play? AI is seemingly everywhere - what does that mean for a play about an AI sister that was written several years ago?

Listen to the latest episode of The Green Room, our very own podcast where host Bobby Kennedy speaks with Libby about the inspiration for this play and how responses to the story have evolved as AI becomes a bigger and bigger part of our lives.

🎧 Listen now at the link in our bio!

Only 3 weeks left to catch SISTERS on stage. Must close November 8!

Last weekend we had one very special human guest in the house - SISTERS playwright Matthew Libby!

At Writers Theatre, it is always a particularly joyful experience to welcome a playwright into our space. Whether its during the rehearsal process or to be an audience member, our collaboration with writers is deeply valuable to all of us.

Thank you to Matthew for this unique and timely story about Matilda and Greta.

I’ve found this to be true - so proud of the kind, good humans they’ve become. Just love being with them (and their partners, and our new grandbaby). That is all 🥹💙🙌🏻

Always Shakespeare for my playwright son. Happy 31st, @matthew.libby_ 🌟 The day you were born is the only day I rejoiced when you cried (IYKYK) while the stars above danced with happiness 🌟💫✨🩵

Matthew Libby is the creative mind behind the riveting and thought-provoking story of a human woman and her AI sister. In this conversation, Matthew will discuss his passion for plays involving technology (another play of his, DATA, played off-Broadway earlier this year), the family member who inspired SISTERS, and what he thinks the future of technology—and theatre—might look like.

The interview will be conducted by Director of Artistic Development Bobby Kennedy and attendees will have the opportunity to ask the playwright their own questions as well.

The Green Room is a free, in-person event. Registration required.

At DGF, we believe supporting writers over the course of a creative life matters. It is a joy to see DGF Fellows Alumni continuing to create bold, expansive, deeply human work, and to see that work recognized across this year’s awards season.

Join us in congratulating the DGF Fellows Alumni Rajiv Joseph, Daniel Lazour & Patrick Lazour, Matthew Libby, Ro Reddick, and Lauren Yee on their nominations! @datatheplay has officially closed. i’ve been working in entertainment since i was 9 years old and there’s only been a handful of projects that have led to a massive paradigm shift across all categories in my life. DATA is one of those projects.

not only was this my off-broadway debut, but my debut as a leading man. a position i wasn’t sure i’d ever get to hold in my career - let alone with such an important story, with such a talented creative team, and in such a historic theater.

thank you to this amazing team for making it happen, and thank you to everyone who came out to support the show. i’ll never truly be able to articulate how grateful i am.

anyways, i’m gonna take a nap now.

Thank you to our kindness warrior @kimmyb710 who shared our mission and Alyssa’s legacy with the incredible cast of @datatheplay today. With each rock taken and shared a piece of Alyssa’s spirit goes out into the world. When she passed away we found a bucket list she had written which included traveling the world and this is her way of accomplishing that dream in spirit. We are so grateful for the continued love and support and if you are in NYC this weekend catch one of the last four performances of @datatheplay 💙🥹✨🪨 #dataplay
