Welcome to CCBF for the first time, award-winning author and illustrator, @matthew.mcelligott ! 🎉 Matthew McElligott has been drawing and making up stories for as long as he can remember, and turning those stories into children’s books for more than 30 years! He lives in upstate New York with his wife and a bunch of pets where he creates in his home studio!.When he is not working on illustration or children’s books, he teaches at Russell Sage College in Albany, NY. Matthew’s featured title, Project Wooff, is a funny, mysterious, action-packed middle grade adventure, featuring black-and-white chapter opening artwork and full-page black-and-white illustrations that is perfect for readers who love secret experiments and talking animals! Alex Grebert has grown up in the off-grid community of Underland, where electricity and internet are practically nonexistent, and that is a major issue for a kid who loves coding! When Alex’s best friend Lily Day takes in a stray cat named Fuzzypants, Alex is pulled into an adventure straight out of one of his self-made video games. The cat, whose real name is Professor Fuzzypants, PhD., is a product of Project WOOFF (Weaponized Optimization of Flora/Fauna), a top-secret government project that developed intelligent, speaking animals. Project WOOFF was supposed to have been shut down a long time ago, but someone is continuing the experiments. Alex and Lily are determined to find out why it all went wrong, especially when Alex discovers that there may be more to his parents’ story than he had ever been told. Matthew will also be signing: 🧪Books from his Mad Scientist Academy series 👽Even Aliens Need Snacks 🧌Even Monsters Need Haircuts 🦁🐜The Lion’s Share 🗓️ Be sure to meet Matthew at CCBF on 9/26 to check out his imaginative worlds filled with mad scientists, monsters, aliens, and lots of adventures!

Okay, a few more moments from Sunday’s Children’s Literature Connection annual Caldecott-Newbery Celebration at the Colonie Library. I love the Children’s Literature Community! These teachers, librarians, writers, and illustrators take kids seriously and know firsthand how books and literacy change lives. Plus (or of course!) they are also wonderful, thoughtful, kind, supportive, and fun people to hang out with! (The backdrop to the event was a spectacular student art show, which was a whole other source of inspiration. Look at the walls behind us!!!🤯) Among our reviewers/presenters were Librarians Rebecca Ekstrom and Stacey Rattner (and students, who honestly stole the show—these kids were so enthusiastic and earnest 🥹) @librarymom616 And local authors and illustrators: Kyra Teis @kyrateis Matt McElligott @matthew.mcelligott Nancy Castaldo @nancycastaldoauthor Kerry McQuaide @kerrymcquaide Sarah LuAnn Perkins @sarahluannart John Briggs @johnbriggsbooks This event wouldn’t happen without the hard work and organizing of Janice Toomajian, Ann-Marie Helldorfer, Colonie Library, and the wonderful volunteers, who made it such a wonderful day! @jessicaperiwinkle @lizafrenette @all.is.on.illuminating.books @scbwieasternny @colonielibrary @janice_toomajian

For over a month now, the name Matthew McElligott @matthew.mcelligott , was only an abstraction. A name I uttered in my sleep during a bad dream where I had messed up someone’s book order for Matt’s upcoming author visit to HF-L. Well, today, that all changed. And I can report that Matthew McElligott is not just a name but an actual person as well. Someone who is funny, smart, and an all-around good person! On his last day of his three-day long school visit at HF-L, Matt came to the bookshop with Ms Masterson and Ms Pulver, our wonderful librarians for Manor and Lima Primary. We had lots of fun talking about books, Jane Austen, vegan smoothies, and more books! Matt asked me toward the end of his visit what makes being a bookseller a special job, and I told him a big part of it is that the job gives me opportunities to meet and know people like him and Ms Masterson and Ms Pulver. Thank you Matt for your good work, and thank you to Ms Masterson and Ms Pulver for your dedication and service to our students. This might be the first time we’ve all come together as a group at the bookshop but it certainly won’t be the last. Godspeed to you all. 📸 by our good friend, Joan Haviland ❤️ #bleakhousebooks #honeoyefalls #bestjobever

At their new school, mythical students are in for a wild ride! With the help of their teacher, Mr. Cosmic and technology, they experience interactive and life-size exhibits for hands-on learning.  🦖 Learn all about fossils, dinosaurs, and prehistoric eras, with robotic dinosaurs and their unexpected class pet.  🌊 The class takes a ride in Mr. Cosmic’s submersible invention to explore the ocean and learn about sonar, food webs, and aquatic life.  🚀 While exploring the out-of-this-world planetarium the students learn about gravity, planets, and space rocks to complete a mission.  ⛈️ The kids try to save the school from a rogue weather machine using what they've learned about the atmosphere, precipitation and extreme weather events.  This is a great series to explore science topics with graphic-novel lovers like mine. They remind me a bit of The Magic Schoolbus, which I have always enjoyed. The layout, action, and fantastical elements got my son reading about things he has never shown interest in before so that's a win for us! ❔Which topic would interest your child?  Mad Scientist Academy: The Dinosaur Disaster Mad Scientist Academy: The Ocean Disaster Mad Scientist Academy: The Space Disaster Mad Scientist Academy: The Weather Disaster Written and Illustrated by Matthew McElligott @matthew.mcelligott Published by Crown Books for Young Readers #kidsbookstagram #lovetoread #picturebooks #childrensbooks #kidsbooks #kidslit #booksforkids #bookreview #bookrecommendations #picturebooks #raisingreaders #raisinglittlereaders #bookskidslove #kidsbookswelove #bestbooksforkids #readtoyourkids #readaloud #readaloudfamily #librarybooks #creativenonfiction #graphicnovel #science

We celebrated the inauguration of our 11th president, Dr. Matthew Shaftel, today. At the ceremony, President Shaftel announced that 1970 graduate Donna Robinson Esteves, who is the college's all-time top donor, has pledged a $10 million gift to kick off the Sage Forward Fund and fuel the initiatives that will come out of our new strategic plan. But the party doesn't stop. Be sure to join us for the Green and Blue Bash at 5 p.m. on our Albany campus Thursday, or for our Russell Sage in the Community day of service on Friday, and read more about the inauguration and exciting gift announcement in the link in our bio!
