Updated Post: In a rush to post at 3am last night, I woke up this morning and looked at my last moonshot cringing. 😬😂 All photographers, even the best ones struggle with their edits. One of the best lessons learned is sometimes a fresh perspective in letting an edit sit overnight can pay off in dividends. Sometimes less is more. This image here is what I should have posted.

Yesterday evening’s 19.3% Waning Crescent Moon setting over the George Washington Masonic National Memorial from 1.9 miles away. For those interested, the camera settings are as follows: 600mm, f6.3, ISO 3200 and 1/25s shutter speed.

Yesterday evening’s 19.3% waxing crescent moon setting over the George Washington Masonic Memorial from 1.9 miles away.

To be honest, I plotted this alignment last minute knowing that we’d have clear skies and the GW Masonic Memorial would still have their lights up. For those asking, this shot was taken from the Woodrow Wilson Bridge with the following settings; 600mm, f6.3, ISO 3200 and 1/25 second shutter speed. Since we were shooting from the bridge with lots of road vibrations due to traffic, I made sure to let my group know to shoot at a higher shutter speed to counteract the micro vibration. Thanks for joining me last night on short notice. @joshsteelephotography @wdmoore03 and @sandeepangara for coming along as well.

This squall line really impacted Central Ohio tonight causing a few tornado warnings for our southern counties including Ross County and Southwestern Franklin County to include Grove City earlier tonight.Here’s a quick but crazy video of the storm from inside my house. Power is also out throughout the city. The Columbus Fire Department is out on numerous calls regarding downed power lines. Power is also out for some of my friends in New Albany. Thank you to everyone who joined my live weather forecast earlier tonight. Tomorrow, this storm system moves toward the Carolina Coast and Mid Atlantic. The squall line is now making its way towards Coshocton County and Muskingum County with severe thunderstorm warnings extending from Newark in Licking County down to Southwestern Athens County.

Yesterday morning’s sun creating a silhouette over the tip of the Washington Monument resembling the iconic 1980s Japanese maze character. This was taken from near the Netherlands Carillon 1.8 miles away. The settings for the camera was 600mm, f16, ISO 100 and 1/640s shutter speed using a 10 stop ND filter to bring back the definition and colors of the sun.

The classic Netherlands Carillon-henge??? 😂

This morning’s sun rising over the @uscapitol from near the Netherlands Carillon in Arlington, VA 3.2 miles away. Typically this shot can be done 3-4 times a year based on the alignments around the Fall and Spring Equinox period. The settings for this shot was 300mm, f8, ISO 1250 and 1/13s shutter speed using a 10 stop ND filter. Using a ND filter in this case allowed me to still bring out some details in the buildings vs having it be a silhouette composition.

Yesterday morning’s sun passing through the glass windows of the @uscapitol dome creating what DC locals affectionately call the “Capitol Henge.” This was taken from 1.2 miles away from the base of the Washington Monument. The small group of tourist you see by the Washington Monument Lodge/Gift Shop were waiting in line for same day tickets to go up to the Washington Monument observation deck.

Imagine being hit by 2 tornadoes in 41 minutes. It happened during the March 15 high risk outbreak in Covington County, Mississippi. Two tornado paths overlapped near Bassfield around Spring Hill School road.

This squall line of severe storms is racing off to the northeast at 65 to 70 mph. It will most likely be in the western portion of Franklin County by quarter to midnight with it being in the Columbus area around 12 to 12:15. I’m going to head off to sleep now, but meteorologist Dave Mazza is on the news right now at NBC4 at 11. Please make sure that your do not disturb is turned off. You will want to receive these alerts. The storm will be entering the western portion of Madison County in Ohio within about the next 5 to 10 minutes or so. Folks in London, West Jefferson, Rupert, Lilly Chapel. Be prepared for the possibility of hail and 60 to 65 mph wind gusts.
