POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A week in Stamford and another beauty in terms of weather. The autumn sunshine is truly wonderful to me.

It’s been quite a busy one in terms of this account. I visited Peterborough Cathedral last week and hopefully you saw my reel from the Mary Queen of Scots exhibition. I actually didn’t know much about Mary, so enjoying a talk and then exploring the exhibition was very interesting. It’s well worth a visit, and I believe it’s on for another month.

I also attended a meeting at the Town Hall regarding a possible Stamford Museum, something I shall be actively promoting as it progresses towards reality. A historically important town like Stamford deserves a museum for residents and visitors alike.

Once again, I also took a little trip to Barnsdale Woods, gazed over the lake and considered all things life before deciding it was probably best to have tea.

I hope you all have a good week ahead. ❤️

Today is the last chance to see The Maker’s Room in its entirety at Gladwell & Patterson, Stamford, and we couldn’t resist sharing these beautiful photographs by Lucy Glen before the rooms change again.

It’s been a wonderful few weeks celebrating contemporary British making. A very special thank you to all the makers and visitors who have been part of it, and of course the extraordinary team at Gladwell & Patterson.

A gallery with an incredible history, an exceptional eye and a genuine passion for the people behind the work. The warmth, generosity and enthusiasm with which they’ve embraced what we’re building at Notswolds has meant an enormous amount to us

And the good news is that we’re not quite finished! We’re delighted that a smaller, tightly curated selection of furniture, art and decorative objects will remain in the gallery until Christmas, with more events and new work to follow.

Make sure you catch the collection while it’s in the gallery, and sign up to the Notswolds newsletter (in bio) for new arrivals and invitations to events.

Is the future of British luxury in these amazing makers’ hands?

The things we make don’t make themselves. Behind everything we (and other British workshops) make is a group of extraordinarily skilled people, often unsung, dedicated and generous in passing on skills learned over years and generations. I could talk a lot about the generosity I’ve seen at @matthewcoxetc and in the wider industry.

Craftspeople also happen to be best salespeople on the planet without even trying to sell. Nobody communicates the value of a well-made object quite like the person who knows exactly what went into making it.

But skills only survive if there is a reason to keep using them.

The future of British luxury needs people making things here, and people who understand the value of buying them. And we need to better at communicating this value too.

So is the future of British luxury really in their hands?

No, I think it’s in yours.

I also think it’s in mine and I imagine my fellow panellists feel that responsibility too.

We have hope that things can change and it’s something I’m so excited to discuss with a brilliant panel hosted by the legendary Theresa Austin of @walpole_uk at @decorex_international on Monday as part of Designed to endure: sustainability, desirability and the future of British luxury.

PS Forever grateful for these pictures of our team 🖤

A beautifully considered library where traditional architecture meets rich, contemporary colour. Deep navy bespoke joinery wraps the room, creating a dramatic backdrop for the curated bookshelves.

The bespoke marble fireplace anchors the room, while the oversized artwork introduces a playful, unexpected focal point. Brass lighting, oak flooring, soft curtains and accents of ochre and red bring warmth and balance to the darker palette. The layered textures and carefully selected furniture make the library feel both sophisticated yet comfortable.

Axecellent skills from the team at @matthewcoxetc slinging axes and angel knives, sticking a few bullseyes, humans slaying the zombies and maybe someone losing a few axes over the top, (not pointing any fingers Pete 👈🏼👀).

Top work all, it was a pleasure to host you!

The dining room at Edwardes Square, captured so beautifully by Hana. A fairly small scale dining room which sits at the front of this beautiful house. We designed the round table with @matthewcoxetc to sit perfectly in the middle of the room, under a chandelier we sourced from @carltondavidsonantiques for our client. The Boundary dining chairs from @madebybenchmark upholstered in a heavy linen from @roseuniacke offer comfortable seating for long dinners. New panelling details and fireplace from @jamb contribute to the feeling of elevated yet understated elegance.

Designed To Endure: Sustainability, Desirability and the Future of British Luxury

Can sustainability make luxury more desirable?

Luxury has always been associated with quality, craftsmanship, provenance and permanence. But today, those expectations increasingly extend to how products are made, where materials come from and how businesses contribute to people and place.

Join Walpole at The Sustainability Space at Decorex 2026 for a conversation exploring how responsible materials, transparent sourcing and long term thinking can strengthen rather than constrain desirability, creativity and commercial value.

Hosted by Theresa Austin, Head of Sustainability at Walpole, and joined by voices from luxury hospitality, paint, interiors and furniture:

Antje Balow, Head of Executive Office and Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability, The Peninsula London

Edward Bulmer, Co Founder, Edward Bulmer Natural Paints

Lewis Taylor, Design Director, David Collins Studio

Camilla McLean, Managing Director, Matthew Cox

Alexandra Llewellyn, Founder, Alexandra Llewellyn

Together, they’ll explore how responsible practice can become part of the luxury experience, creating better products, stronger brands and lasting customer connection.

Decorex, Olympia, London

Monday 12 October @4 - 4.45pm

Come and join the conversation. Get your tickets via the link in the bio.
