OROBORO | Anna Huijun Wang A single eye becomes a character. A character becomes a world. Then it all begins to unravel. In OROBORO, Anna Huijun Wang moves through cel animation, flat graphics, and 3D as her character accumulates limbs, geometry, and an increasingly complex identity. Surrounded by social media and products, she becomes overwhelmed, glitches, and sheds the dimensions she has gained. Each change in medium gives form to the experience of becoming someone, and letting that identity go. Created as Wang’s thesis film at USC, with design by Matthew Sorgie and music and sound by Penrose Audio. He built a chosen family alongside legends like RuPaul and Lady Bunny, chasing a bigger stage all the way to New York City. He arrived at the height of the AIDS crisis and answered grief with a defiant party til you drop spirit, rising to become the King of NYC Nightlife and pioneering the Electroclash movement. But as his career exploded, addiction and fractured friendships threatened to consume everything he built. Now, at 66, Larry is refusing to become a footnote. Alongside his husband Sam Wood, he’s claiming his second act with ICONS, proving that queer history is still being written. Cannes : SCREENING DAY. Huge thank you to Monika and all of the team at the American Pavilion for Emerging Artists Showcase, Obscured Pictures (shout out to Kory!), Gold House, everyone at Indiewire, and a huge congratulations to our entire cohort because this was the strongest, most moving block I’ve ever seen, let alone had the privilege to be a part of. Cannes has been an overwhelming dream come true, and to have Welcome to Tool Shed be so insanely well-received just fills me with such pride that we did justice to these stories and histories that need so desperately to be shared. I’m humbled and grateful and really proud of our entire team. Here’s to many more- but you always remember your first.
