Museumnacht Den Haag 2026...

EN _ Past Friday we kicked off ‘De Verstandige Kock’ at the museum! The project is initiated by Trang Hà and Mattia Papp, who weave their practice as artists and designers into the culinary realm. Together, we are taking a deep dive into culinary history, intertwining the narrative of the historic 1667 cookbook and other rare culinary volumes from our collection with the living heritage of the Moroccan community in The Hague.

The project explores the relationship between the Netherlands and Morocco, alongside labor challenges within the shrimp industry. Key themes include shrimp labor routes (export and import cycles), Dutch–Moroccan migration, the history of Moroccan labor in Dutch food and agriculture, gendered labor (specifically women peeling shrimp), and the politics of sustainable fishing.

By sharing stories and conducting historical research, we are creating new recipes together. More to come soon!

Many thanks @terrafic.soup @mattiappp @mourad_aouragh #Bouchra @cultuurfonds @mondriaanfonds @hoogtijdenhaag
