“When I arrived in Yonkers for this experiment, I was immediately flooded with memories. Yonkers was and is not unfamiliar to me. On my first visit, I drove along avenues in Northern Yonkers I’d traveled as a young child while riding in the backseat of my parent’s beat-up Volvo, walked by slabs of waxed concrete in the Ludlow area that I skated with friends during my obsessive skateboarding days, and passed a candy store I’d bought my cigarettes from during high school.
