Apolune: Systems Normal interrogates humanity’s relationship with progress through NASA’s Apollo 11 mission. Using original archival materials, live performance and analogue and digital tech, we examine the dissonance between institutional narratives and lived experience. What happens when we reexamine historical achievements through neurodivergent eyes? This project transforms NASA transcripts into visceral theatre, revealing the human traces beneath technological systems. Keep following to find out more about the background of the work and the artists shaping it. We'll be sharing the development of the work so far, as well as some exciting next stages coming up. A promotional image for “Apolune: Systems Normal,” a performance-installation by Peyvand Sadeghian & Matthew Robinson. The design features a purple-toned background with bold white text and geometric circles. Below, a collage of archival-style images depicts vintage technology, including old monitors, cameras, and control panels. The piece explores reframing NASA Apollo 11 archives.

Theatre Performance at the Barbican Centre – The Pit 8th & 9th November 2024.

We were proud to have presented the culmination of our residency with CRIPtic Arts, supported by @bowarts and @aceagrams.

Working Title: Over the Moon

This project was a co-created project with actor and writer Peyvand Sadeghian and Matthew C.Robinson a film installation fine artist, the overall show was directed by Jamie Hale. The project sort to bridge the gap between Fine art Film Installation and experimental theatre.

Over the Moon incorporated a range of elements:

Moving Image Design: Featuring archive NASA footage, stop-motion animation, 3D visuals, holographic scrim projections, and green-screen video.

The production also included handcrafted props such as a rocket and the moon alongside a collection of Apollo 11 memorabilia.

Soundscape: A live analogue synth performance paired with an atmospheric soundscape composed by the CRIPtic Arts team.

After two incredible sold out shows at @barbicancentre this weekend, let's hear it for the performers, creatives and entire team behind The Acts 👏👏👏

We're loving this video captured behind the scenes by @georgie.luppi, and can't wait to share more of these incredible pieces 👀

The Acts asked the question, in a rapidly changing artistic landscape, what work are disabled people allowed to make and what conditions are we expected to make it in? Perhaps we need an artistic revolution...

Three weeks today, we’ll get to experience Peyvand Sadeghian (@peyvandofpersia) & Matthew Robinson (@matts_robinson)’s Over The Moon as part of The Acts at @BarbicanCentre 🌌 🌙

We asked Peyvand and Matthew about disability narratives in the mainstream theatre industry, here’s what they had to say.

Over The Moon uses immersive projections & material from the NASA archives of the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing, to navigate awe, despair, wellness, and isolation 🔭

The Acts is a groundbreaking meta-theatrical experience featuring four thrilling works by the UK’s leading disabled theatre makers.

📅 8th & 9th Nov @ @BarbicanCentre

Peyvand and Matthew talk to camera in two separate clips. Peyvand is a woman, has a brown fringe, and is wearing a black t shirt and head mic. Matthew, a man with short light coloured hair, is in a train carriage wearing a dark shirt and Vikings hat. Matthew's clip is in black and white. Text on screen reads “Are there particular narratives you do, or don't, think the mainstream theatre industry is interested in from disabled theatremakers?”

✨ Presenting @CRIPticArts’s The Acts! ✨

A groundbreaking meta-theatrical experience featuring four thrilling works by the UK’s leading disabled theatre makers. From comedy to live art, explore stories of love, neurodivergence, isolation & more.

In a rapidly changing artistic landscape, the Acts explores the work disabled people are allowed to make and the conditions we’re expected to make it. Perhaps we need an artistic revolution?

📅 8th & 9th Nov @ @BarbicanCentre

✨ A.C. Smith (@Alligatrrr) brings To Rose On Her 18th Birthday, a love letter written by a mother to her daughter as she reaches for joy after twice developing cancer, aware her daughter may have inherited the same genetic risk.

✨ Stephen Bailey and ASYLUM Arts (@theatre_asylum) present the darkly comedic Autistic as Fuck, exploring the complexities and contradictions of neurodivergence, masking, and the ways we’re told we need to tell our stories for them to be seen by non-disabled audiences.

✨ Peyvand Sadeghian (@peyvandofpersia) & Matthew Robinson (@matts_robinson) use immersive projections & material from the NASA archives of the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing, to navigate awe, despair, wellness, and isolation in Over The Moon (working title).

✨ Rachel Gadsden (@rachelgadsden) & Freddie Meyers (@freddiemeyers) bring PostHuman, a dynamic “live” art and sound performance that navigates the audience through a journey of posthuman ideology, addressing how chronic illness and disability not only presents challenges, but also empowers and authorises agency of the body.

An abstract painting by Rachel Gadsden, showing five figures made of white lines flowing around a stage. From left to right: figure one is an electric wheelchair user underneath a spotlight, mid-movement; figure two stands at the back of the stage with their hands up as if they are signing; figure three is bent double, as if in a bow; figure four, a manual wheelchair user, is mid-movement; and figure five is in a running pose as if moving swiftly offstage.
