Bangkok folding time in on itself today.
Back to those early Bali days—when I was crashing at Susan’s house in Seminyak, looking for a job, what would become Hotel Manager of Amandari. Not long after, I met John and Cynthia as neighbors once I’d landed the Aman job. 26 years ago.
Same time, same chapter, different paths—now all colliding again in Bangkok, decades later.
Some friendships are built to last

In just a few days, I’ll be joining @santiagabkk for a very special dinner, where we’ll be diving into a collaboration that means a lot to both of us. Many people might not know that Mexico and China have a historical connection. Both @maumaoleao’s and my great-grandfather made the journey to Mexico from China, joining a significant community in Sinaloa, where my family is from.

As a kid, when I would spend time with my family in Mexico i always noticed how my aunt and mom would often cook with soy sauce, ginger, and garlic. She’d take me to Chinese-Mexican restaurants to eat a dish called Chop Suey, a messy plate of stir-fried bean sprouts, even when all I wanted was a good taco. When we would walk through the wet markets, people would stop us to ask where we were from ( mostly because of my pale skin and my aunts unique features). This experience revealed a niche aspect of our culture giving way to flavors and traditions from both nations that were welcomed by our communities.

This weekend, we’ll be sharing a menu that combines our favorite dishes from childhood with Chinese flavors and techniques. At the heart of it, food has this amazing ability to connect us, to create bonds with new and old friends. We can’t wait to welcome you and celebrate this fun part of our history together. Hope to see you there! June 6th! #bkkeats #bangkok #mexicanfood #chinesefood #bangkokeats

Whether in China or in Mexico, it’s always about the food.

Food is at the heart of both cultures. It’s how families gather, how traditions are preserved, how stories are told, and how memories are passed from one generation to the next.

CHINALOA celebrates that shared language. A menu inspired by the meeting of Chinese and Mexican cultures, told through flavors, ingredients, and dishes that have traveled across generations.

Join Megan León and Chef Mau on June 6th for an evening where family, tradition, and culture come together around the table.

🌞✨ 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐮𝐥𝐮𝐦 ✨🌞
A one-day brunch inspired by the laid-back rhythm of coastal Mexico! Where fermentation, bold flavors, and music come together.

The spotlight shone on 𝙩𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙚, Mexico’s refreshing fermented fruit drink, crafted in-house and reimagined in tropical, spiced variations: hibiscus, tamarind, lemon, jackfruit, mangosteen, and pineapple. Each sip was designed to complement a lively daytime drinks program. 🍹🌿

The menu was equally expressive and made to share:
• Pan francés tres leches with pink guava
• Huevos with machaca & chorizo
• Onsen egg in salsa verde
• Yogurt with mole rosa
• Enchilada de pato

With house-made tepache in hand, bold dishes on the table, and a live DJ set filling the room, 𝓢𝓾𝓶𝓶𝓮𝓻 𝓲𝓷 𝓣𝓾𝓵𝓾𝓶 was an immersive celebration of contemporary Mexican dining. 🌴🎶

This was a special event, so keep an eye out for the next one! 👀✨
