Toshiya Eto (1927-2008) studied violin from age 5 in his birthplace of Tokyo, and was one of the first students of Shinichi Suzuki, the developer of the Suzuki method of musical education. A friend of Efrem Zimbalist heard Eto playing in an officer’s hall, and, knowing Zimbalist’s love of Japanese art and culture, recommended the violinist to Zimbalist, who invited him to come to Curtis to study with him. Eto graduated in 1952, and had his first recital at Carnegie Hall in 1951. He taught at Curtis from 1953 to 1961, before returning to Japan to teach at the Toho Gakuen School of Music, where he later became director. He continued to perform in both Japan and America throughout his life.

Honeywell Arts Academy
----
At the beginning of June, I moved down to Wabash for a few weeks to complete my final internship for my degree. I spent my time working for the @honeywellartsacademy, an incredible organization that thrives on this philosophy of the sharing of knowledge among artists from all walks of life. This program immerses musicians in their craft for an entire week without financial barriers and seeks to create rich relationships between artists that can last a lifetime. I was in awe with each and every student I had the pleasure of meeting and working with and learned so much about an entire world of music I had never even thought to explore. The experience that I had with Honeywell Arts Academy, as well as the Honeywell Foundation/Honeywell Arts and Culture, was astounding and opened my eyes to so many possibilities. Every faculty and staff member was a key player in making this entire experience incredible for both the students and myself.
I also want to give the biggest shout-out to the awesome scholars. All of you are destined for greatness, and I am excited to see where you all go from this experience! I have so much love and respect for all of you 🫶.
I could go on forever, but I especially want to recognize the life-changing experience and advice I received in these few weeks, as well as the month prior. I have so much love for Honeywell, and I cannot wait to see where I go from here! ❤️
