Back, not better…but having fun with running again.

After a 7 year hiatus of racing, with not that much running I decided to lace up and put myself in a few races over the past few months, as well as attended some awesome races on the trail scene. Does that mean I’m going to sign up for more races, absolutely not. I have though found my love for the sport again.

Feeling so lucky to have such incredible friends and family 🤍

My best friend Natalie threw me the most beautiful shower, with help from friends and fam and it came together better than I could have imagined. It’s been a hard couple of months, but Max and I are feeling so incredibly loved by our community right now. So grateful for everyone who flew in from afar and all the Portland friends who showed up.

And we’re having a BOY 🥹🐻💙

Yesterday Max ran a 4:20 mile at the @nike PHK Track Invitational, 6 weeks after losing his dad suddenly.

His mom flew in. I stood at the finish line 7 months pregnant trying not to ugly cry. We were all there for the same reason.

Grief doesn’t pause. Life doesn’t pause. And sometimes the most profound thing you can do is lace up and run anyway.

So proud of you, Max. And I know your dad was watching. 🫶🏻

April 23, 2026 was a night that I genuinely thought could never happen. Dad, you were invincible, a force of nature in ways I will never fully appreciate. You had grit that wouldn't quit, a mind that seemed to know something about everything, and a work ethic that set the bar impossibly high. You could write a song about literally anything and turn any room into a party with your voice, your laughter, and your presence. We didn't always see eye to eye, and you could be infuriatingly difficult, but I'm realizing that same stubborn determination that drove us both up the wall is what made you unforgettable. I've only recently begun to understand now what you were trying to teach us over the years, and it sucks that I won't be able to thank you for the lessons. From push starting the Jeep in Panama City when it wouldn't turn over, to dragging ourselves to swim practice even when we desperately didn't want to go, to making those damn spreadsheets for every decision, every choice, every uncertainty. You were teaching us that showing up matters, that persistence pays off, that preparation and discipline create the life you actually want. I'll admit I didn't get it and I bucked you at every turn then, but I am starting to get it now. As the Stones say, you can't always get what you want, but you get what you need, and what I needed was a father who refused to let me settle or quit. Those lessons are still unfolding, still teaching me, still shaping who I'm becoming. That's your lasting legacy, Dad. And I can only hope that your grandkids get to learn about and remember the best of you, the lessons, laughter, and love you shared with them. We will carry you in our hearts and with every red sky at night, I will know you're sails are full and your seas are calm. I hope you forever know how much you mean to us.

I’ve run a sub-5 mile every year since 2005 🤘🏼

I wasn’t about to let pregnancy end that streak. I’ve been feeling good and just shy of 6 months pregnant so decided it was a good time to go for it. I did 4x300 (51–53 on 60 sec rest) to help prep the legs and bc I wanted to join Karissa for a smidge of her sesh. Then Max paced me through the mile; we went out in 2:32, closed in 2:27 for 4:59.1 💪

Running has taught me so many lessons over the years, and lately I’ve been thinking about the ones I hope to pass on to this little one.

Show up even when it’s hard.
Be kind to people around you.
Stand by your values.
And remember that success isn’t always linear.

This sport has shaped so much of who I am, and I’m really grateful for everything it’s taught me.

Week 16 running with my 🥑 was a good one 😊 Lots of runs with friends, one day of hill strides, 2 workouts, 90 min in the gym, and a hilly long run of 12.3 miles 💪 my paces are slower than normal and weights are less than normal but that’s ok! Embracing it all right now and I am just loving the feeling of running / enjoying running with friends as long as I can keep up!!

Maybe the most impressive thing I did all last year, I’ve talked about this like a million times lol but here’s the actual footage of me popping in for just 1 200m shift with @nikkihiltz @brendensands after my workout with Max 😮‍💨 In my head I said ok I can run 15. and then maybe 14.0, but surprised myself with a 13.4 (I think).
