Karangahape Rd - WHAT A WEEKEND - Three days of art, artists, open doors, big ideas, great conversations and a whole lot of people discovering great art. Our inaugural Karangahape Art Weekend has officially wrapped and we’re still buzzing. From gallery-hopping and studio visits to sound art, performances, workshops, music and a whole lot of little artists on the Squiggla trail, Karangahape has always been a place for the curious, the creative and the wonderfully unexpected. This weekend was a reminder of just how much there is to discover here. A massive thank you to everyone who came along, wandered in, got curious and spent some time with our galleries and artists. To the artists, gallerists, performers, volunteers, partners and behind-the-scenes legends who made it all happen. And to the gallery crew who dreamed this up and got the ball rolling  - Thank you. Huge thanks to Auckland Council and the City Centre Targeted Rate, Auckland Live, The Chartwell Trust and Squiggla, Clean Collective and all our supporters and friends who helped bring the weekend to life. Thanks for being part of our very first Karangahape Art Weekend. Who’s ready for next year? 🎨 📸 @abigaildellavo #KarangahapeRoad #KRoadAuckland #KarangahapeArtWeekend #AucklandArt

Get creative and join in this week on Karangahape with ‘Small World’ at Studio One Toi Tu -  an interactive digital installation by Pon Huey Min, Peter Simpson and Melody Renaud that invites audiences to draw their own bugs and release them into an evolving ecosystem. This work celebrates creativity and quiet observation. By participating and viewing these digital creations, the audience is invited to slow down, reflect, and find empathy for the small lives that sustain our world.

On Saturday join Tautai for a workshop with Faamele Etuale using the art of felt lei making to reflect on the people, relationships, stories and communities that have shaped Tautai over the past four decades.  This is a free public workshop as part of the K I V A | 40 years of Tautai exhibition.  Shared kai will be an important part of coming together, so please bring a plate to contribute to the table.  Spaces are limited and registration is required. You can also get along to new photographic exhibitions this week with Coastal Signs opening ‘sisters’ by Shannon Te Ao on Wednesday night and Charles Ninow opening an exhibition of photography by Gil Hanly on Friday night.

In arts media this week, listen back to Chris Booth korero with Sofia Roger Williams on 95bFM’s ‘Various Artists’ where they discuss his work in the exhibition ‘one of these situations’ at Lett Thomas.

And, pick up your copy of the latest Current magazine featuring many of the Karangahape galleries and the artists we work with including Nephi Tupaea on the cover whose work is currently showing at Tim Melville, as well as Atarangi Anderson with Artspace Aotearoa, Erica van Zon with Melanie Roger Gallery and much much more.
Please check directly with each gallery for opening hours and exhibition details, as these may vary. #galleryguide #kroadnz
