In Iranian architecture, a design known as “Layla and Majnun” features structures placed close together but not connected. They are symmetrical and free from friction. This painting is inspired by that design.

My two glass cube sculptures - inspired by children's building blocks. A playful memory turned into fragile, colorful, permanent glass. What if home is where we play?

A celebration of contemporary African art, creativity and culture!

Learning more about African culture and heritage - I had some amazing conversations this week and loved hearing the different perspectives that art brings together!

The 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair at Somerset House, London, brought together an inspiring celebration of African and diasporic art.

Here are some artists whose work really stayed with me:

BISILA NOHA | Southern Art Hub - Feeling Pure Magic - Noha’s work explores material, memory and ancestral stories. After visiting Benin City, Nigeria, and witnessing traditional bronze casting, she gained a deeper understanding of the invisible labour behind the process. Her work highlights the “often-unseen, unpaid and undervalued work of women and women of colour”, reminding us to look beyond the finished piece.
@bisilanoha @thesouthernarthub

ALEXIS PESKINE | October Gallery - Exploring Black identity, the African diaspora and “resistance”, Peskine creates striking portraits by hammering thousands of nails into wood stained with natural materials, then applying precious metal leaf. His work reflects on heritage as something we actively shape and reconnect with.
@alexispeskine @octobergallerylondon

ANINA MAJOR | Larkin Durey - Taking focus on her Bahamian heritage, Major translates traditional weaving techniques into intricate ceramic sculptures. Her work explores how memory, craft and cultural identity are carried forward through generations.
@larkindurey

KHADIJA JAYI | Galleria Anna Marra - Jayi tears and burns paper before rebuilding the fragments into intricate compositions. I loved how the traces of destruction remain visible, reflecting how healing doesn’t make the past invisible, but allows us to rebuild around it.

Definitely an unforgettable edition filled with striking artworks!🖼️

Your local Nando’s is secretly part of one of the biggest collections of South African art in the world. So of course they partnered with @154artfair . Three artists I can’t stop thinking about: Fred Mutebi, Ibrahim Khatab and Seyni Awa Camara
