Water Songs, today last year at the Wiesbaden Biennale with @joseph_havlat + @mayah_kadish , curated by absolute visionaries @rebecca_ajnwojner and @carolinhochleichter. It's a selection of Niggunim (in the spirit of hasidic chanting without words) I wrote last year, in the middle of unfathomable and ongoing violence, communing with and channeling the musical traditions of my ancestors, who survived utmost horrors. We performed this outside the Kaiser-Friedrich-Therme in Wiesbaden - near to where the local synagogue stood, now destroyed with no trace left of it - on 13 September 2025, only a few weeks after the human-made famine in G*za was officially declared on 22 August 2025 as entering the IPC Phase 5. Music will never be water. We need the material conditions in order to make music. If there is no flour, there is no Torah, no learning, no play, no music. The state-engineered conditions on the ground continue to be disastrous and need to change, not tomorrow, not in another year, but now. The earth and all life with it is literally burning and the cries will echo for generations. With the far right in Germany (and across the world for that matter) reaching a new high last week, I don't know what music can do in all this but I do believe it plays a role, however small. To me and so many I love, it has been a lifeline. Thank you to everyone who continues to play, show up, have the tough conversations, organise, create alliances and do the impossible in impossible times. Thank you Jo, Mayah and Alex for playing with me back then and today and through it all and Rebecca and Carolin for making it all possible. Shana Tova, towards a better, liberated year. #5787 #watersongs

The concert by the ensemble @lavaghezza tells the story of 17th-century Italian music, spanning from the Maritime Republic of Venice to the Kingdom of Naples, through the scores of Biagio Marini from Brescia (1594–1633) and Andrea Falconieri from Naples (1585–1656). Music that encapsulates the entire spectrum of the Affetti in just a few notes, elevating every instrument to a theatrical character capable of "teaching, moving, and delighting" (docere, movere, delectare) like the great orators of antiquity, blending written notes with improvised ornaments. The "masks" of Greek theatre are transformed into iconic puppets, guided by the Marionette Grilli company, which for generations has preserved the wisdom of an ancient and dreamlike art. MASCHERE SENZA COPIONE Domenica 10 maggio ore 17, ingresso ore 16 per visita al Museo dei Burattini e laboratori creativi TORINO - Casa Gianduja Info e biglietti: https://www.maghini.com/mordente-calendario/4-storyplaying-spettacolo-in-forma-di-dialogo MORDENTE Maghini Young Festival --- 🇬🇧 --- Music is much more than a sequence of notes written on a staff. Its power to tell stories is hidden right between those notes and those lines, and the performers are those entrusted with the task of showing everything that a score cannot express. Because musical notation, like that of any language, is a synthetic code that encapsulates a macrocosm of emotions, reflections, perceptions, and tales. MASCHERE SENZA COPIONE is 17th-century Italy told from north to south. Shaping the story, the ensemble @lavaghezza, accompanied by the expertise of @compagniamarionettegrilli, leads us to rediscover puppet theater. We look forward to seeing you immersed in the atmosphere of Casa Gianduja, to listen to the concert and visit the splendid puppet museum, a place that tells of an art as ancient as music.
