What happens when you spend your career listening to the world?
Maya started her career in cabin crew recruitment, interviewing people from different nationalities, cultures and backgrounds — all expected to communicate in one common language: English.
That experience taught her something powerful.
Communication isn’t just about the words we choose.
Today, Maya teaches leaders to communicate holistically — through their voice, body language, facial expressions, movement, presence and the energy they bring into a room.
Because your audience isn’t just listening to what you say.
They’re watching how you say it.
Your voice is more than sound.
Your body is part of the message.
And your presence can speak before you say a word. With @mayasarji

You know her. You just don’t know you know her.
You may have heard Maya on TV.
On the radio.
In a commercial.
On a phone IVR.
In an elevator.
That voice you recognise but can’t quite place?
It might be hers.
For years, Maya has used her voice professionally — understanding how tiny changes in inflection, tone, pace and delivery can completely change the way a message is received.
And that’s exactly what she now teaches leaders.
Because your voice isn’t just something you use to speak.
It’s a leadership tool.
The question isn’t simply “What are you saying?”
It’s “What is your voice making people feel?” with @mayasarji

When did confidence become pretending you don’t have feelings?
Social media tells us to remove the hesitation.
Remove the emotion.
Remove the “I think.”
Remove the “I feel.”
Remove every filler word.
Speak with certainty. Never doubt yourself. Never show vulnerability.
But what happens when we polish away so much of our humanity that our communication stops feeling human?
There’s nothing weak about saying “I think.”
There’s nothing wrong with saying “I feel.”
And there’s nothing unprofessional about emotion.
Real confidence isn’t about sounding perfect.
It’s about being comfortable enough in your own voice to sound like yourself.
So maybe we don’t need to speak less like humans.
Maybe we need to stop apologising for being one. With @mayasarji

When did we start asking AI how humans should speak?
AI can analyse our words.
It can rewrite our sentences.
It can tell us what sounds more confident, more persuasive, more professional.
But should we really let a machine decide how a human should communicate?
The danger isn’t AI helping us communicate better.
It’s when we start outsourcing our voice, personality and instinct to an algorithm — and gradually lose what makes our communication human.
Because great communication isn’t just about saying the “right” words.
It’s about emotion, context, connection, authenticity and knowing the person in front of you.
AI can give you the words.
But can it give you your voice? With @mayasarji

Have we forgotten how to use our voice?
Somewhere along the way, shouting became “confidence.”
Being loud became “being heard.”
And if one influencer does it… millions follow without ever asking why.
Social media doesn’t just influence what we buy or watch. It can quietly influence our standards, our behaviour and even the way we communicate.
But just because something goes viral, does that make it right?
Your voice is one of your most powerful leadership tools. It’s not about volume. It’s about presence, intention, credibility and knowing how to read the room.
Because being heard is one thing.
Being worth listening to is another. With @mayasarji

Some people command respect the moment they walk into a room. But why?
Maya was influencing people before “influencing” became a thing.
Through the power of voice, she learned how to move people, connect with them — and ultimately, get them to buy into an idea.
Public speaking can teach you skills, confidence, body language and micro-expressions. But Maya brings all of it together — voice, communication, presence and the subtle signals that make people listen.
Tomorrow on The Leadership Lounge — Unfiltered, we hear more from this incredible voice, communication and presence strategist — and discover what it really takes to command a room.
Episode 10 with Maya Sarji drops 13th September. 🎙️

Social media is changing the way people speak, and not always for the better.
One of the biggest communication mistakes today is copying voices instead of developing your own.
Trends may go viral, but confidence, presence, and authenticity can’t be imitated.
Your strongest voice will always be the one that sounds natural to you.

It’s not about how you think you sound… it’s about sounding how you should sound.
Your voice has to match the moment, the emotion, and the intention behind your words.
Because people don’t just listen to what you say, they respond to how you say it.
The right tone, emotion, and delivery can completely change the impact of your message.

Communication isn’t just about speaking.
It’s about choosing the right words, pronouncing them clearly, and attaching the right emotion to them.

A small change in wording, tone, or delivery can completely change the meaning of your message.

Because the way people understand you depends as much on how you say something as what you say.
