Singing isn’t just about hitting the right notes or having a ‘nice voice’ — it’s rhythm, timing, feel, expression, story telling… all of it! Make sure you’re mashing time for practice like this.
Get the rhythm into your body & hands somehow.
You can march on the spot too.
Or dance. 💃

Here’s a little rhythm practice my student was playing with on one of her original bossa nova tunes🎶🫶🏼

Student Q&A time! With Maya! 🎉
This is the first in a new series called “Student Q&A Time!” First up we have Maya who I’ve been teaching for a few years. She was part of my academy program for six months also - and has just excelled - in her singing and songwriting! So proud. 🥹💜

Our gorgeous boy Pop-eye passed yesterday. He will be so deeply missed by us, he has been such an integral part of the pack here.

When we first moved to Crouch End, Pops was part of the core group of dogs that we cared for. We had a lot of puppies back then and he really helped us show them the way, it always felt like he was looking out for them and showing them how to be easy going and confident around other dogs. He was such a gentle soul (what other dog could have butterflies hanging out on them for a whole walk like in photo three?) with the most patient and calm temperament. We could write so many things that we loved about you, your bouncy ears, your cuddles with Sisi, your hilarious way of communicating when you needed something like a lift up onto the sofa with us, but for now we will just say thank you for being the most amazing member of the pack Pops, you were truly such a special dog. ❤️

Maya was having singing lessons with me last year and then decided to join the London Vocal Coaching Academy early this year. She wanted more intense training, more support and more opportunities. These songs just started flowing out of her and we worked on them together and brought them to life. Her first ever concert is this Sunday the 10th of November at @toulouse.london in Kennington - with some incredible musicians. Tickets at the link in my bio.
See you there.. and if you have any questions or queries about the Academy- please message me! 🫶🏼🎶

After the Diamond Selfmade Speakers event, I had the pleasure of meeting friends and clients for my usual quarterly in-person meet-up. It couldn’t have been a more perfect end to an already incredible two days with @mrbselfmade and @biancamillerofficial.

I truly live for these moments when I get to genuinely connect with my clients and see how they are progressing on their Amazon FBA journeys. 🚀

I seriously love what I do—who could call this work? 🤭😂🥰

Thank you @iamlaurenlucille for such a spectacular chilled evening with beautiful music! 💕🎶

Just by adding a little emotion, not expecting too much, making it yours - the song/sound/vibe can change so much. Maya still sounded great before, but there were more dynamics in the afters. This was her first try after a long time of singing it the same way. She can still play around with how she wants to express herself in this song, but she’s on the right track! 💪🏼

As you know and have witnessed, Maya has come so far in the past year. But as always, there’s always more to learn- for everyone!

Thoughts:

💭 Keep making the songs your own - like you wrote them.
💭 Don’t forget to think of singing as extension of your speaking voice. Contemporary singing can be very relaxed and speech like!
💭 Don’t over-breathe. This can make you feel worse and like you have no air because of what is going on in your lungs at a deeper level.
💭 Watch how you start and end a phrase: onsets & offsets. These are so important for many reasons.

I could go on all day. But these ones are relevant for this video ☺️🎶

DM ‘SPEECHY’ if you want to know more! 🙏🏼🎶🫶🏼
