As a reminder, our July flavor is inspired by Harlem Renaissance legend Zora Neale Hurston’s Floridian roots as well as “Hitting a Straight Lick with a Crooked Stick,” Zora’s collection of Black folk stories about love and migration, gender and class, racism and sexism. Many of the stories are Harlem-related and were written in 1925 during Zora’s studies at Harlem’s @BarnardCollege, which is currently celebrating her legacy with their three-year Zora Neale Hurston Centennial celebration.

Last month, I bopped up to NYC to hug my loves. ❤️ Reunions my heart needed.

And I returned to The Studio Museum after their seven-year renovation! I’ve visited each trip since 2006. It is stunning.

Year 1 as a Longhorn is done! ✅

I’m grateful for the grades I earned while maintaining STR Superhost status (without a housekeeper, until now!), making the path toward home-ownership simple for very deserving individuals and families, upgrading my car, and staying connected to community and love in my life (and more 🤪).

Returning to undergrad in this chapter of life? 😅 None of this is possible without the care and support of community, a good head on my shoulders, and a dream-driven heart. 💕

ROC, Remembering Our Culture, founded in 2001 by Michael and Lluvia Campbell, has always been more than a program. It became a home.

For so many of us in Utah County, ROC created belonging, mentorship, friendship, faith, and family. It helped shape first generation graduates, lifelong friendships, marriages, and entire families.

In a world full of uncertainty, one thing I know for sure is this: when ROC gathers, you will feel love, connection, joy, and Christ.

10 weeks of art making and community building manifested into one beautiful and light filled evening 💫

This fall session, @mgyoungphotography and I facilitated an adult photography class through the brilliant partnerships of @hopecenterharlem @thedreamcenterharlem and @jhproject with literally the most refreshing and energetic group of students EVER 😭 Through sharing stories, learning the camera and getting out into the streets of Harlem, we were able to truly cultivate a community of artists that we know will continue creating amazing work with the new light they’ve developed 🤗

And what made this even more special is that last night and for the first time since the class’s inception 5 years ago, we were given an official exhibition space, thanks to the beautiful @aloft_harlem ✨

Happy Con! So happy to spend the day with my girl Maybelline! I was Liet Kynes but everybody thought I was Chani. Her Bene Gesserit witch knocked everyone out though!

The first half of August has zoomed by. First day of school and trying to get back into a routine. I think it’ll take me a little bit. Here are some highlights and lowlights:

1.Went to NYC, was excited to see K-Pop Demon Hunters on Times Square
2. Completed my first (and last) 1000 piece puzzle
3. Got a visit from Brian’s parents. I’m terrible and didn’t take any pics with them, but we had a great time!
4. Jayda came with me to NYC, rode her first subway, and went to Time Square
5. Got to celebrate Percy Jackson’s birthday early (more tomorrow!)
6. Stayed with our chosen family. Had an amazing time.
7. Started year 2 of homeschooling Ty for middle school. Love one on ones with this guy.
8. Also got rejected from a homeschool group 🙁
9. Got creeped out and stopped by the Elmo Mafia
10. Hoping to hit up some new spots with Shuri this week
11. Going to see kPop Demon Hunters on the big screen!
12. Working on a vlog about this experience. Prepare yourselves, lol

They say it takes a village, but what they don’t say is how rare it is to find one.
My mom flew in. My friend dropped everything to come when I needed her most. Meals were dropped at the door. Dishes disappeared while I slept. I was fed. My baby was held.
And for the first time in a long time—I felt held, too.
Rest shouldn’t be a luxury. Nourishment shouldn’t be earned. Care shouldn’t come with conditions.
If you’ve been that kind of village to someone—thank you. If you’re still learning how to let people show up—this is your reminder that you’re worthy of it.
We were never meant to do this alone 🥹🤍🪽✨🧸👶🏿
