Mayor and At Large Lowell City Councilor

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

On Tuesday, I had the honor of joining Community Teamwork (CTI) to celebrate the opening of the new Lowell Women’s Shelter!

A heartfelt thank you to the entire CTI team for their hard work, dedication, and continued commitment to addressing housing insecurity and providing safe, stable housing for women in need across our city.

Everyone deserves a safe place to call home, and this new shelter represents an important step toward providing safety, stability, hope, and a brighter future for some of our most vulnerable community members.

I am grateful to have been part of this special celebration and proud to see projects like this become a reality here in Lowell. I look forward to continuing our work together for the community.

Congratulations to CTI and everyone who helped make this important project possible!

At the dedication of the Garden of Peace at Fort Hill Park in Lowell, the love and solidarity surrounding the families who came together to remember those they lost was deeply felt.

An act of violence changes the course of a family’s life in an instant, and its impact continues long after that moment. It is felt by parents, siblings, friends, and neighbors, and it leaves a community carrying grief for years. We all have a part to play in building communities where people are safe, supported, and connected, and where families do not have to face that grief alone.

May this garden be a place where families can come together, remember their loved ones, and find comfort in one another.

Thank you to the City of Lowell, the families, organizers, and everyone who helped make this space possible.

It was truly meaningful to stand alongside families, friends, and members of our community for the dedication of the Garden of Peace at Fort Hill Park.

Behind every name and every life we remember is a family, a friend, and a community that continues to carry their memory with them every day. This garden is more than a place, it is a space to remember the people we love, reflect on the lives they touched, and find comfort and healing together.

Thank you to the City of Lowell, the organizers, and especially the families who helped make this beautiful Garden of Peace a reality.

What a beautiful morning at the Naturalization Ceremony at Boarding House Park in Lowell!

Thank you to Lowell National Historical Park and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services for bringing us together for such a meaningful celebration.

It was an honor to welcome our newest American citizens. Lowell has always been shaped by generations of immigrants who came here seeking opportunity and a better future.

This is what America is all about, welcoming new citizens, celebrating their journeys, and recognizing that our democracy is strongest when everyone has the opportunity to participate.

Congratulations to our newest U.S. citizens!!

What a wonderful celebration of the cultures, traditions, and people that make Lowell such a vibrant community. 🧡💙

It was great to spend time at the Dwelling House of Hope Multicultural Festival, enjoying the food, music, performances, and conversations that brought people together from across our community and around the world.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this celebration possible and for continuing to build a stronger, more connected Lowell.

Today, I was honored to stand alongside my colleagues, Chancellor Chen, community leaders, and the families of those who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001, as we came together to remember and pay our respects.

We honor the lives that were taken too soon, the bravery of our first responders, and all those who stepped forward to help in the days, months, and years that followed.

Here in Lowell, we especially remember those with connections to UMass Lowell whose lives were lost on 9/11, as well as those who later lost their lives due to illnesses connected to the recovery efforts at the World Trade Center.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember their lives, their families, and their legacies.

May we never forget. 🇺🇸

Honored to join @mayorgitschier in presenting a citation to Love All Serve All for their Community and Partnership Appreciation Day.

To Sushil, the board, and every volunteer who has been part of this work since the very beginning, thank you. LASA has grown year after year, and this recognition could not go to a more deserving group.

Good morning, MillCity!

A few weeks ago, I posted about wanting to restore the Spaghettiville Bridge by repainting both the bridge and the iconic sign so it looks great again.

This project means a lot to me. My mom worked at Prince Spaghetti for years, and to this day, I still only buy Prince Spaghetti.

I have a friend, Carlos “Chucky” Colon, who is a certified sign painter, and he’s offered to help with the cleaning, prep work, and painting. An old school friend of mine, and now the Mayor of Lowell, Erik Gitschier, is also involved and helping connect us with the right people to make this happen.

About a week after I made my original post, my son Andrew invited me to Prince Pizzeria on Route 1 South in Saugus. While we were there, the owner, Steve Castraberti, noticed my Lowell shirt and asked if the Spaghetti Bridge sign was still there. His father also worked at the Prince Spaghetti factory in Lowell, and Steve remembered eating at the restaurant when he was just 10 years old.

I told him I was trying to get permission to repaint the bridge, and without hesitation, he offered to contribute toward the cost of the paint. That kind of generosity really says something about how much this landmark means to people.

I’m 55 now, and I feel like the Lowell I grew up in has changed so much. While change is inevitable, I think there are some things that should always remain part of the city’s identity.

Trucks getting stuck under a bridge is nothing new—but getting stuck under the Prince Spaghettiville Bridge should never change. Just like The Sun will always shine in Lowell, the famous bridge that every truck seems to find should always be the “Welcome to Prince Spaghettiville” bridge.

Hope you all have an amazing day!

Yesterday, Revolutionary Valley had the pleasure of hosting the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism (@visitma) for a familiarization tour and giving our guests a taste of the history, culture, stories and people that make Lowell such an incredible place to visit.

We explored Lowell National Historical Park, stepped into the city’s rich textile history at the Boott Cotton Mills Museum, hopped aboard the trolley, made our way through downtown and wrapped up the day over lunch at the historic Worthen House.

A huge thank you to Kate Fox (@katefox_mott) and the MOTT team for spending the day with us, and to everyone who helped us showcase Lowell.

Special thanks to Mayor Erik Gitschier for starting our day with an inspiring welcome, Superintendent Julie Galonska and the Lowell National Historical Park ( @lowellnps ) team for bringing Lowell’s history to life, and Peter Aucella of the Lowell Summer Music Series (@lowellsummermusic ) for stopping by and sharing another piece of what makes this city such a vibrant destination.

And, of course, thank you to the Worthen House (@worthenhousecafe ) for the hospitality and a perfect Lowell ending to the day!

We’re always proud to share the stories of Revolutionary Valley, and we loved having the opportunity to show MOTT just a little of what makes Lowell worth the trip. ❤️

This isn’t about one broken window or a single disturbance. As a son of Lowell, I’m sick of the drug addicts and vagrants downtown.

It is a pattern. Every time I’m back home in Lowell, I stop in at @lous_deli_lowell and say hi to my high school friends that bet on themselves to make a neighborhood deli when most people cut and run from this city. I often bring my kids to get them ham and cheese on white, and I get a Reuben Tuesdee. And nearly every time, there’s a broken window from a crack addict throwing a brick through it, or one of the Andy’s telling me they just had it repaired.

Enough. The cops arrests so many of these degenerates and they are often released on their recognizance by lenient judges to scoop up more dope. These people need to be in active treatment, or in corrections. Period. @cityoflowellma @mayorgitschier

Fix this. The owners have had a glass guy on speed dial since they opened.
