"Newark is for Hustlers"- @thenorkproject

On Sunday, January 31st, we held our official graduation for the THRIVE Winter Cohort. @ironboundboxing awarded 8k+ in mini-grants to 10 young entrepreneurs of color in Newark, NJ. The grants ranged from 500 to 2,000 dollars.

You might be wondering why a boxing program is teaching entrepreneurship and giving grants to aspiring young entrepreneurs in Newark. For me, it’s quite simple. I want our kids to have options for a fulfilling life outside the ring. Unfortunately, our sport doesn’t do the best job of facilitating that, at least not at the amateur level.

Attending the United States Naval Academy @usnavalacademy exposed me to a different type of amateur boxing. Although we shed blood, sweat, and tears inside the ring on a daily basis, we all knew how to translate those lessons and thrive outside the ring. I can’t say the same for many of the kids in boxing gyms found in the inner-city. At IRONBOUND Boxing, we’re doing things differently; that’s why we introduced THRIVE. It’s still in its early days, but I’m confident that over time, and with your support, this will be one of the most impactful programs in the country. #WeAreIRONBOUND #NewarkisForHustlers

It was a honor to speak on the “Politics of Race” panel at the Harvard Business School AASU 47th Annual H. Naylor Fitzhugh Conference. The theme this year was “Unchartered: Black Visionary Leadership Redefining What Is Possible.” Many thanks to our moderator, former NAACP President Cornell Williams-Brooks, and my co-panelist, former MA State Rep. Juana Matias of Mass Inc, and Montgomery, AL first Black Mayor and my frat brother, Mayor Steve Reed.

And shout out to my frat brothers the Phillip Jones and Nate Jester! Roo!
It was also great to see my Georgetown Fam Sharky David, Jon-Matt Hopkins and Crystal Riley!
