#CcityINVESTMENT Councilmembers Jamie Gauthier and Mark Squilla introduced dueling legislative plans regarding how the city should handle its municipal trash contract. The debate centers on whether Philadelphia should immediately stop burning its curbside waste at the controversial Reworld trash incinerator in Chester, Pennsylvania. Gauthier argues the practice amounts to environmental racism due to the health impacts on Chester's predominantly Black and low-income population. Meanwhile, Squilla has teamed up with Mayor Cherelle Parker's administration to offer a long-term alternative.Conflict Gauthier's Perspective: Gauthier views are CORRECT in the sense that vote #stoptrashingourairact is an immediate moral choice. She argues that continuing to burn trash fuels high asthma and cancer rates in the Chester community. She has called Squilla’s bill a “dirty approach” which is also CORRECT it's designed to make councilmembers feel comfortable voting for the administration's proposed 4-to-7-year contract extension with Reworld #BanTheBurn. Squilla's Perspective: Squilla argues that an outright ban does not solve the root issue which he is INCORRECT in his approach believing the sheer volume of trash should continue to burn in Chester. Squilla's bill is a bait and switch (DON'T BUY INTO IT) although they claim it focuses on permanently shrinking the city's waste footprint over time. The question we have to as is if that's the case why did Philadelphia's District Attorney SUE it's own city to get incinerator removed from their own city? The Parker administration supports this because it allows the city to sign a new deal that saves an estimated $10 million which is PROFIT over innocent people #SHAME #environmentalracism EnvironmentalJustice LEARN MORE log onto Chesterpaej.org

🎤 Voices from the Rally | Part 2 This fight is bigger than one neighborhood, one city, or one person. I had the opportunity to talk with people on the ground about why the Stop Trashing Our Air movement matters and why communities deserve clean air. I captured a lot of powerful conversations that day, and I’m going to keep rolling them out one by one so you can hear directly from the people involved. Listen to this one all the way through. 👀🎤 Clean air shouldn’t depend on your ZIP code. #StopTrashingOurAir #CleanAir #EnvironmentalJustice #Philadelphia #ChesterPA YaFavTrashman CommunityVoices TalkingTrash

I am so proud and excited that today Governor Shapiro and Mayor Roots stood together to unveil a $100 million investment in Chester’s future! For more than two years, I have had the incredible privilege of working closely with Mayor Roots, the Governor’s Office, DCED, and other stakeholders to strategically craft these investments for the revitalization of Chester. Some of these funds have already been deployed to expand local summer camps and youth programs, helping our community achieve historically low levels of violence for the second summer in a row. Very soon, some of Chester’s worst blighted properties will be demolished, vacant lots will be cleared, and homes will be improved. And in the years to come, we will make Chester more connected, safe, and attractive by improving our “Main Street” from Widener to City Hall as well as our waterfront thoroughfare Route 291. This revitalization package puts dollars directly into our residents and neighborhoods now, while also catalyzing economic development for long-term growth and sustainability. Thank you to Governor Shapiro and everyone involved in delivering big for Chester!

#stoptrashingourairact (REPOST) ATTENTION ALL #EnvironmentalJustice Advocates for CLEAN AIR!!!! Now is The Time GET INVOLVED Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker has officially rejected calls to stop burning the city's trash in Chester, approving a new waste disposal contract that will continue the practice for at least four more years. If you would like to be apart of the SOLUTION we are inviting community members and organizations to attend this SPECIAL EVENT so that we can come together and encourage City Council to not approve this decision which will be finalized in September if we don't come up with a strategic plan to hold them accountable. According to reports the decision has sparked heavy backlash from environmental justice advocates and local officials. Critics have long labeled the arrangement as a form of "environmental racism," noting that Chester is a predominantly Black, working-class city that has been used as a regional dumping ground for decades. Key Details of the Controversy The New Contract: Philadelphia's Sanitation Department is awarding the multi-year municipal waste processing contract to Reworld (formerly Covanta), the operator of the Delaware Valley trash incinerator in Chester. The city will also use WM and Republic Services. Political Tension: Councilmember Jamie Gauthier previously introduced a high-profile bill to ban the city from burning its trash. While the Parker administration delayed the bidding process for six months to evaluate "environmental impacts," the final contract still utilizes incineration. Lobbying and Campaign Funding: Activists and political opponents have pointed out that Reworld spent $100,000 on lobbying since Gauthier’s bill was introduced and contributed $3,700 to Mayor Parker’s campaign. The administration maintains that campaign contributions do not influence policy decisions. #BanTheBurn #CcityINVESTMENT #Gogreen LEARN MORE at ChesterPaEJ.org Participate at upcoming event as Vendors, Guest Speaker, organization, Sponsor, etc. EMAIL: trueandfaithful1@hotmail.com
