I made a pattern design about natural hair as an identity that should be celebrated. And I got to share it at the first edition of the Small Art, Big Impact art sale curated by @zazatherat The brief was direct and simple - a white short sleeve two-piece for a beach event. 🎣 Casting Roots: Africa’s Aquatic Tales 🌊 This collection is a visual exploration of Africa’s fishing heritage, reinterpreted for contemporary design. Fishing, one of humanity’s earliest crafts, has shaped African survival, culture, and storytelling for over 90,000 years — from the Katanga expeditions in Congo to the Argungu Festival in Nigeria. More than sustenance, it has always been a symbol of pride, community, and continuity. Inspired by African line art (Nsibidi), the fish motif is reimagined through elongated, repeated forms, not drawn literally, but abstracted into symbolic visual language. Across African cultures, fish symbolize life, fertility, abundance, and balance with nature values this collection carries forward. ✨ The Prints 🐟 Catch – fish caught in handwoven nets, celebrating craft and sustenance. 🌊 Casting Lines – minimal blue stripes that transform into fishing lines and waves. 🐚 Currents – coral-like textures and rippling forms, alive with movement and freedom.
