August = Joe Hisaishi Month for me and I wouldn’t have it any other way 🤍

Where have I been for the past 2 weeks? It’s been all Hisaishi all the time… Such an honor to get to be in the choir for his 7-night residency at Radio City Music Hall! It was back to back to back with rehearsals and performances, and now that it’s over I don’t know what to do with myself 😅

So honored to get to perform Sins & Grace with @mastervoicesny earlier this week! This combination of the Faure Requiem (one my favorite choral works ever) and Seven: A Cycle of Sins (newly commissioned from 7 contemporary composers) was the most artistically fulfilling concert I’ve done in my entire time with the choir (almost 10 years! 😮). Oh, it was a challenge all right, and don’t get me wrong I did plenty of whining along the way about how damn hard it was, but I feel like as a choir we got to shine in a way we don’t always do… though there were soloists and a big honking organ, it was ultimately a choir concert, and we somehow pulled it all off despite having not one but two rehearsals snowed out by “once in a century” storms.

Also, @jackala28 and I went out for a celebratory drink after and just happened to run into Maestro @tedsperling and composers @hedtearne and @_michaelabels!!! Lucky us 😁😁😁

Super gorgeous pro photos of the chorus by Erin Baiano. Y’all know which ones I’m talking about 📸

And now a few scattershot quotes from the sins based on what comes to my memory first…

Gluttony: Just 2 more treats (two!) / Just 5 more shows (five!)
Vanity: what profit hath a man?
Envy: But they don’t go to JULLIARD
Greed: To the chief justice at lunch
Sloth: Technofeudalist insanity!
Lust: Uh…
Wrath: What side does God take? Mine! Mine! Always!

Sweet Smell Of Success was a success because of these people!
I had the grandest time choreographing this piece and am so grateful @tedsperling and @mastervoicesny brought me along for another collab.
My associate @jaymewapp , my assistant @meghankyliehoey and my better half @kristen_pasquarelli kept my head from spinning off its axis during this whirlwind process.
Shoutouts to Craig Carnelia and Marvin Hamlisch’s widow @terre.blair for their beautiful work and support, and to the 200 people ONSTAGE for bringing all of themselves to this production.
The dream cast of principals: Raul Esparza, @ali.louis , @lizzymcalpine , @noahjrkts and @alinemayagoitia each brought the house down and I was truly in awe of their talent on a daily basis.
Finally, @jaymewapp , @vivianarincon_ , @clarisse.austin , @bbinion13 , @brandonleff and @colby_q were the best damn dance crew anyone could ask for and tbh, were the secret to all that sweet smellin’ success. I thank every one of you with a strong point and a head pop!
