Some of the most interesting festivals aren't built around massive lineups. They create space for experimentation, unexpected encounters and creative communities to connect. From Uganda to Japan, these six festivals offer different ways to experience culture beyond the usual circuit. At @eafringe in Kampala, Uganda, the first edition brought performers from different artistic backgrounds into one programme. A new festival can offer more than visibility. It creates opportunities for artists to meet, exchange ideas and explore beyond their usual circles. At @marte_festival in Ouro Preto, Brazil, artists from across the Global South brought musical traditions and contemporary experiments into conversation. The city's history adds another dimension. Ancestral knowledge, technology and artistic expression meet where past and present remain visible. At @festival.aires in Mexico City, contemporary music finds audiences beyond familiar concert formats, giving composers and performers room to experiment. Smaller programmes allow creative risks, where experimentation matters more than reaching the largest crowd. At @smf_sangenjaya_musicfestival in Tokyo, Japan, the neighbourhood becomes part of the experience, connecting music with local businesses and everyday spaces. Rather than gathering everything in one venue, the festival invites people to explore an existing community and its cultural expressions. At @meakusma in Eupen, Belgium, experimental music connects artists, listeners and independent cultural spaces across borders. As a label and event organiser, Meakusma extends those relationships beyond the festival, keeping music and creative exchanges circulating year-round. At @fiberfestival in Amsterdam, Netherlands, audiovisual art and experimental music offer new ways to experience technology, sound and collective attention. The festival connects artistic practice with research and social questions, creating ideas that extend beyond performances. Festivals do more than present finished work. They bring people together, create room for experimentation and strengthen relationships across creative communities. What matters isn't always the event's size,

~∼ ~∼ ~∼ I've written an essay for Céline Vahsen's 'Shiftings,' the artist's solo show at IKOB - Museum of Contemporary Art in Eupen. The show is visible until November 1, 2026. Céline's work is so special, so delicate and powerful in the meantime, and almost impossible to photograph. My essay attempts to connect my sensuous experience of her practice with the one of music, technologies, time and natural elements that produces effects that seem comparable to me. The text has been published in Meakusma's Magazin #8. The publication can be read in print or online on Bandcamp (you can support the fantastic music festival by donating via the link in bio). Thank you @ikobmuseum @celinevahsen @brendamado @meakusma. Much love. Picture by @lola.pertsowsky. ~∼ ~∼ ~∼

October's @radio_buena_vida mix up on soundcloud now. Folk / psych / experimental / shoegaze / indie autumnal afternoon drift 🕊 Includes lots of new music including a forthcoming @paatoimitus piece on @discreetmusic.gbg , new @adelkamed & @sztefan.szabo on @42___far , @johnclydeevans new tape on @jdv.cassettes, @wildcabinband on @nosoap.world , & more! Thanks to all the artists and labels for the music, have been truly blessed this year, at least with music if nothing else 🙏 Swipe for tracklist and listen in the usual places > Dx An artwork for the tracklist for the Radio Buena Vida show Dreaming. The image features a pattern effect of illustratjons of a rabbit, a votive coin, and a triskelionn, an ancient symbol of three human legs interlocked into spiral pattern. These are chaotically placed across the page, and we're made in wax pastel so have a hazy, grainy texture with a pink-red hue. The text is the usual title in the top left: "Dreaming", and in the bottom left is the date of broadcast 11.10.26 and the station Radio Buena Vida. The website info is in the opposite bottom right corner of the page where you can listen to the show: soundcloud.com/dddreaminggg and buenavida.co.uk

A basement with 30 people and the end of the world need very different songs 🎧 @nazzzerarslan caught @autumns.dss at @meakusma this year as the evening came in and she asked a few questions. The basement got Mark Stewart & the Maffia, the end of the world got Muslimgauze, and there's more in the video. What would you put on for either one? Tell us below 👇 Video by @mertcerdemir #MeakusmaFestival #Autumns #MarkStewart #Muslimgauze TheSHEERMagazine
