DAY 13 of the DOGGY BAG mixtape Extravaganza: “GEN_V-HS (meanspath Remix)”
Produced by @meanspath

“meanspath is the instrumental project of J Riley Hill it comes from taking a step back, spending a few years working on a bunch music without preconceived ideas of what to make and finding a sound, style and songs that seemed right.” ~meanspath (from Bandcamp)

meanspath has taken the bright and nostalgic sound of the original GEN_V-HS and turned it into a dark ambient boom-bap jaunt through a forest of experimental electronica on a heavy overcast day. This track is an ominous, turbulent trip. Our first draft of the original GEN_V-HS was faster than this. It was even faster than the final release. Even so, it reminded us of VHS tapes and fifth generation era video game consoles. This remix shows how we all slow down as our lives pass us by. At our current pace, the version of GEN_V-HS that comes out 10 years from now will be 20 minutes long, our forecasts show.

Wait and find out what the numbers say on July 3.

Emma Beech and I are in rehearsals for a new duet co-creation. We began our research for the work in late summer of 2024, as artists-in-residence at the Deep Bay cabin (run by @mbartscouncil), in Riding Mountain National Park, inspired by landscapes and sharing our bodies' weight.

Now, immersed in the city studio creation period, we are uncovering a work that speaks to cause and effect, inertia, and the inevitable need for adaptation. Through interlocking our bodies in architectural shapes, we present intersecting lines, playing with balance, and negotiating weight. Still, more to come and to discover, with the introduction of sound by J Riley Hill (@meanspath), and a costume consultation with Sarah Struthers (@srastruts).

Witness the premiere of this emergent work!
