👀 A little sneak peek behind the doors…

Yesterday we got our first proper look inside the future home of Slí na Feirme and suddenly, all the planning, meetings, paperwork, applications, conversations and big ideas started to feel very real.

There’s still plenty to do, but this space will become something we’ve been working towards for a long time: a farmer-led processing unit built around small-scale farming, local food and getting more value back to the people producing it.

A place where we can turn great local meat into great food from fresh cuts to sausages, burgers, bacon, hams and more while developing the nose-to-tail side of the project and making better use of the whole animal.

We’re building this step by step, with farmers, independent abattoirs, local businesses and our wider BioRegion community around us.

It may not look like much just yet…

…but we can already see what it’s going to become. ❤️

Slí na Feirme is getting very real..........

We came together to celebrate Really Resilient Food with the soft-launch of Slí na Feirme - a farmer-led multi-species meat processing facility spearheaded by Siobhan Hubbard of @newbard_farm and Jon Toy of @meatjon.

Guided by the co-created Dromana Declaration, Sli na Feirme is restoring a missing link in a resilient, regional food system. It aims to support farmers, strengthen local economies and reconnect people with the food produced in their own region.

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to join us yesterday for the soft launch of Slí na Feirme. 💚

It was a really special day for us opening the doors, sharing what we have been working towards, and bringing together farmers, food producers, supporters, friends and people who genuinely want to see stronger local food systems in our region.

And the local food was a huge part of the day. Seeing and tasting such fantastic food produced here in our own communities was a reminder of exactly why this work matters keeping farmers viable, supporting skilled local jobs, shortening supply chains and making sure more of the value of our food stays within the region.

We still have plenty of milestones ahead, but yesterday was a very important one. Slí na Feirme is about rebuilding a missing link in our local food system: fair access to local, multi-species slaughter, butchery, processing and routes to market.

We are also beginning our crowdfunding and fundraising drive to help us take the next steps with the facility. If you would like to support the project, join us, or simply find out more, scan the QR code on the image or contact us at slinafeirme@bioregion.ie.

We’ve spent the past 18 months laying the groundwork. Now, we’re ready to take the next step.

Slí na Feirme was created around a simple belief: Ireland should have the capacity to feed itself well.

For livestock farmers in South East Ireland, access to appropriate local meat processing is a crucial part of making that possible. It means keeping more value within our bioregion, supporting viable farming livelihoods, and reconnecting people with food produced close to home.

Our farmers and butchers are ready. The business plan is in place. The facility for Phase 1 of the Slí na Feirme Processing Unit is nearly ready for us to move in.

Now we need to equip it and give the new operation the foundations it needs to get up and running sustainably.

👏Today, we’re opening our crowdfunding campaign.

🤝Funds raised will help purchase equipment and support the essential early operating costs of the processing unit, including staffing, packaging, transport and the first months of operation.

🔥This isn’t the end goal. It’s the first practical step towards something much bigger: a farmer-led bioregional Irish food system built around collaboration, fair value and greater local ownership.

If that is something you would like to see become a reality in South East Ireland, we’d be very grateful for your support, whether that’s contributing to the campaign or simply sharing it with someone who might want to be part of it.
