It was good. The classic kind of fairytale I would’ve loved as a child with lots of humor and creativity. I also enjoyed it as an adult. I found this one while doom scrolling here on instagram. @meg.rogerson_author recommended it in a very compelling post. I’m pretty sure I had to buy it on Amazon for a few dollars because I couldn’t find it on Kindle unlimited or in my library online database. I don’t regret paying for it. In the back of the book, there is a huge list of Australian classics which I ran through AI to see whether or not they would be a good fit for me and now have another 10 or 20 books I plan to check out. Some of them sound really heartwarming and charming. There are also several I plan to avoid as I don’t have time for books that aren’t clean and don’t have a happy ending. Anyway, this one is going on my list of books I would recommend. I might buy a paperback copy and stick it in my library in my classroom. I think my daughter would also enjoy it. I will warn that it definitely has a traditional style princess, but most of the characters in the book are caricatures. Let’s just say if this book were written today, she’d probably have a bit more spunk. Let me know if you read it and also I would love to know your favorite books from childhood. I was a big fan of Lloyd Alexander, Judy Blume, Anne of Green Gables, The Ordinary Princess, and Beverly Cleary. Beverly Cleary wrote a few lighthearted romances that are really sweet. I also liked the Noonday Friends by Mary Stoltz and The Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson. As a teen, I liked Sherlock Holmes and Ray Bradbury and my favorite book of all time, Pride and Prejudice.

Repost @meg.rogerson_author There’s only so much a teacher can do if the groundwork isn’t being laid in the home. And that’s not laziness on the part of teachers, that’s just science. Students are turning up less prepared than ever to learn, and I’m not just talking about their attention. Their memory, their general knowledge, teachers are watching the active decline of students’ ability to process and store what we tell them. If you’re starting at the beginning with a small child, or you’re trying to start a new habit with an older child, it will never be too late to pivot in a positive direction with your child’s reading. *** 📚 I’m a mum, a teacher and a writer. 📚 Curator of a home library for my five children. 📚 Self-professed expert in read-alouds. 📚 Scavenger of vintage thrifted treasures. 📚 Occasional commenter on the culture. Family life is packed to the brim, but there’s always room for one more story! 💫 *** My unpublished debut novel is the tale of Cinderella, with a twist. The kingdom is searching for the Prince’s mystery beau, but not everyone is thrilled for the chance to try on the glass slipper. To one girl this process seems ridiculous, and she is about to say so. What happens next will begin to unravel the truth behind her idyllic childhood, and alter not just her life, but the whole kingdom.
