I keep having these moments where I look around and think, “THIS is life.” Right now! Right here.

We’ve been going to the Spanish Fork Festival of Lights with my dad since we were little. We’d grab a burger and fries at the rundown Little Acorn diner, pile into the car, and circle the park slowly with the radio tuned to the designated Christmas music station. We’d point out our favorite lights—the ice skaters, the cowboy, the Santa Claus.

Not to get all Interstellar on you, but it’s carrying on these traditions now with my siblings and our own kids that I feel like time folds in on itself a little bit and we’re back there with my dad again in the old Dodge Durango.

One of the gifts of my dad’s death was the clarity that life is just these single moments stacked up on top of each other. You only ever really have the present moment. And a Spanish Fork Christmas light festival (that hasn’t changed one bit since the early 2000s) crowded into the back of a truck bed with family is a nice way to spend one of them.

Spent the weekend unplugged and celebrating @mayyso getting her PHD!
